I'm not sure if anyone here ever played it, but Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast was my big introduction to the world of online gaming. Back then I was dialing in with the Dreamcast's 56K modem and playing all hours of the night (literally a lot of the time).
Well, I was browsing around this weekend and checking things out, and I found out that even though Sega pulled support for the PC game earlier this year (the console versions have been out of commission for a while), the games are still playable thanks to fans making private servers available. The best thing is that, unlike every version since the original Dreamcast version, it's absolutely free.
While the client for the PC version (Blue Burst, which has content exclusive from the console versions) is no longer available from Sega, I did find one optimized for the private server available thanks to MegaUpload.

For more information, check out the
SCHTHACK site (the server). You can even play the console versions (Dreamcast & Gamecube, but not the original XBOX) on the server with a little bit of effort. Good stuff. I just got done playing a bit, and it was a welcome trip down memory lane, at least for me.
