Photography Thread V1.0
Photography Thread V1.0
Rach and I thought a dedicated thread for the photographers to post pics and have discussions about equipment, technique, style, composition, etc. Of course there will be a range of different skill sets and experience, but this is for everyone!
Rules:
- Pictures that you've taken (or that are from a known source) that are good examples of composition and technique
- When possible, try to indicate settings (F~, speed, ISO, etc.) and lens/camera so everyone can learn from the results
- This is a great place to ask about equipment, though, see item 3 below
- If a pic has been edited, please talk about the app and method (though this is more for the photographic side vs. post production)
- All content should be within the normal Wiichat limits - i.e., no nudes, forum friendly pictures only =] (Thanks Rach)
- To keep the posting organized, we're going to use a theme - it might be specific content (like 'doors' or 'faces') or maybe a style/technique (like 'HDR' or 'Black & White').
What this thread is not:
- A place to post random pics
- A place to post pic that should be in another picture related thread (like the "Official Photo Album")
- No bashing or flaming on equipment/brands/etc. This is NOT a "X camera > Y camera" thread - make a recommendation based on what you know and move on
The current PT V1.0 theme:
FLOWERS
.

Woohoo!
I don't want to start by posting a billion pictures I've taken, so I'll limit this post to one of my my favourite pictures I've taken for my photography exam this week.
My topic for my photography exam is Spring, I've taken a couple of other close-ups of flowers too, but this one has turned out the best. I was REALLY pleased with the depth of field with this, I've messed around trying to get shots like this before but haven't come close to what I've achieved here. The funny thing was I wasn't really trying to get a picture good enough for my exam finals, I was sitting in the garden waiting for my brother to come out (who was modelling for another picture I had planned).
As for technical information, it was taken on my Canon 400D with a focal length of 55mm, using my 18-55 mm lense. Exposure time was 0.002 sec (1/500) and the aperture was at f/5.6.

Oh yeah, I was thinking maybe we could do designated content - like Flowers, Birds, Abstract, Macros, etc. (keeping in mind, some people could be SOL on themes like snow )
That would do two things:
1) Let people post existing photos more organized (and slightly more regulated)
2) Possible incent folks to go out and shoot *new* pics!

I like the idea, do you mean as in weekly/fortnightly/monthly 'themes'?
And Gaz, I'm loving your pictures. What camera do you use?

Yes! So in the first post I'd just put a CURRENT TOPIC/THEME is X - heck I'm inclinded to just go with Flowers since that's your first post and Gaz's as well!
Yeah, I'm digging that ferris wheel pic shot up the support beam.

Awesome! Now this is a reason for me to get all of the stuff I have been shooting uploaded.
I like those Gaz. What type of lens were you using?
And Rach, that depth of field really is nice.
Here is one of my first tries at HDR.
Shot with a Canon XT. 18-55mm kit lens. Used AEB -/+2 for the HDR. Can't remember the f/ or ISO, and I can't find the originals =(.
edit: I am such a newb....I can't get mine to show up as a picture jsut a link. =(

Yeah...I really like the idea of a theme for a week or month or whatever. You can post shots you already have, and post ones that you went and shot for that topic. Although I really shouldn't need it, sometimes it is good to have a reason to get out there and shoot some stuff.

Just take the ?v=0 off the end - the MB parser isn't seeing a recognized image filetype on the URL, so it's converting it into a link!

Gaz: What camera do you use?
Tacos: I love your HDR picture, I still haven't had a chance to do any of those but I can't wait too. I even included a couple of pages about HDRI in my exam journal as I was hoping to do some.
registerednerd: Your pictures are great, their so natural. The focus is really interesting on theeee.. cherry blossom tree? I love it.
In my last post I mentioned that I took some other close ups of flowers for the exam, I might as well post them now. I'm pleased with both of them, they were both taken on the day I had my camera, I was snap happy going around my grandparents and sisters houses and decided to use two for exam finals.

Fujifilm FinePix S9500. Not a DSLR but it can hold it's own.

My camera has a fixed lens, it's a 28mm - 300 mm on 35mm camera equivalent.

Actually, I think they're bradford pear trees. I would really like to get a selective focus lens (see www.lensbabies.com), it would seem to fit my shooting style
and Gaz, I love the breakdancer shot, nice candid.

These are the only flowers I could find. Not all that great, but whatever. I will have to go out and shoot some this weekend. I have some that I really like of sunflowers, but I printed them, and never saved them to a computer. =(
