decent computer for gaming?
didnt kno where else to put it...
my laptop is fried and im just curious if were getting a good deal on a new computer, im pretty limited in computer knowledge and was jc if this would be pretty decent for some gaming and everyday needs:
Compaq Presario SR5450F
- Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2180 Dual Core Desktop Processor
- 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 Memory
- 500GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
- 16x DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Burner with LightScribe
- NVIDIA GeForce 7100 Integrated Graphics
- HDA Audio
- v.9256Kbps Modem, 10/100 Ethernet
- Six USB 2.0, One FireWire, 15-in-1 Card Reader
- Vista Home Premium, MS Works, Roxio Creator, AutoProducer, Norton Internet Security
w/ a 19" LCD screen and a printer and Full Microsfot Office for around $810 before the $70 rebate
i expect to play games like Call of Duty 4, Minions of Mirth (kinda obscure, look it up) and Spore when it comes out and stuff like that
i dont expect to be installing like a billion different high end games and ill even turn down the graphics ifneed be, but do u think it will for the most part get the job done??

"Integrated graphics"
Just no. You need a videocard!
Does that say that it has an extra pci-e slot?

You should be fine with that. Seems like a really good computer. Though I would recommend you change the processor if you can. Pentium is the worste you can buy at retail. Its dual core so it will work either way. Just a suggestion if you want to make it even better. Intel processors aren't seen as the gaming type. So, if you can change to AMD phenom X3(they have triple core now!).

Some games prefer Intel, some like AMD.
You do know quad-core have been around for a while now?

all this is sorta like a foreign language to me but i kno graphics cards are better so u can upgrade, i just copied and pasted the info
is there no way to upgrade if its integrated graphics?
i checked the COD 4 box, i meet the requirements, ill just turn down the detail, i want the game for the game, not necessarily the graphics
i just wana kno if in general ill be okay, i dont want some mind blowingly sweet neon glowing computer that scares small chidren, just a decent gaming computer
its on sale...so i cant change much, lol

that won't even play lemmings! let alone call of duty 4.
Your 'graphics' card is poor, you could save money on a smaller hard drive and get a better graphics card.

your silly and wrong
my current (although now fried) laptop played games like morrowind and some mmo's and it was nearly 5 years old and it didnt even have an NVIDIA or ATI or anything card...it had an Intel "Extrene Graphics Controller" it was a crappy inspirion laptop, im sure a brand new compaq will be better
ive checked system requirements of cod 4 and other recently released pc games and i believe it meets requirements with the NVIDIA GeForce 7100 and seeing as how cod 4 requires a minimum of the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better, only 8 GB of free HD space and only 768 MB RAM and a minimum of Pentium 4, i think ill be fine (especially since the pc will excel past most of the minimum requiremetns and past some of the recommeneded)
my questions was just, in general, does this seem like an all around good deal for a pc and for games?
and yeah, itd be nice to geta better card and less HD space but i dont kno if thats an option bc its a packaged sale so i believe my options are fairly limited, lol

Ahahaha, trying to say someone's wrong after you asked for help and admitted it's "a foreign language".
The 6600 or better it's talking about is a VIDEOCARD, the 7100 is INTEGRATED.

Your just plain wrong, you make a thread asking for people's opinions on a subject you stated you know little about, and then you call me wrong!
The reference in my post to the game lemmings was clearly a joke, seeing as how that game is over 17 years old.
If your using the integrated graphics card, with only 2GB of ram for vista (which is the recommended level) then your going to have problems playing games like COD4. you either need more ram, or a better graphics card, and even if you get more ram, it won't make much of a difference to the graphics, it should just play smother as your system might be able to unload some off into the RAM (not sure if vista is capable of doing that)
Basically you will be using an entry level GPU, they recommend using a High level GPU.
Now the PC is a good deal, but not a good deal for playing games on. you can get a better PC for playing games on, for not much more.

If you turn off all the pretty animations on Vista, you should be able to run games off the 2GB just fine.

update: im gettin an Acer w/ everything the same except for that it has 4GB and 19" LCD screen, the processor speed is a lil faster too and it has the same NVIDIA 7100 but its a gfx card and the guy said i could upgrade it essily, i will in the future
the guy also said COD4 will play fine w/ the detail down a bit so i feel pretty good about it, great deal for all i got & the price
also when i said foreign language i guess i exagerated, in my 1st post it can be seen i kno the basics and ive did a bit of research neway
anyways i go pick up the tower tomorrow! Circuit City's FireDog is "optimizing" it so itll b cleaner and run smoother
also i apologize for my semi-outburst, i was ina bad mood bc of hw and the fact i had to wait more on the comp (waitin on check in the mail) & our apt. flooded a while back AND im gettin knee surgery soon AND me and mom got rear ended...so lotta stress
i apologize for the rudeness and thanks for the input evry1
