Rather embarassing question

What are those green dot things underneath a person's username in a post? I'm guessing they're some sort of ranking system, how do you increase them? Does it take a certain amount of posts?

It gets increased by helping people out and them clicking the green mushroom to rep you as a thankyou, or just making epic posts.
