I used to use th voice control, but I disabled it.
It was too much of a hassle to say "Show numbers, 1, cancel, ONE, OK" when I could just click on something.

I have a dual-screen setup right next to my bed. With speaking, I can do everything hands free. Or I have a wireless keyboard when I feel like not talking.

I have a laptop with Vista running. I heard it was crap. People are wrong.

For me, all hardware on my LAN network at home installed fine, virtually plug and play. I have a copy of Windows Office anyway, so I've got word and such on my comp. Anything that gets annoying (like the bar at the top), I simply turned off. Most things will either run fine as-is, or can easily be switched to compatability mode, which mostly gets rid of any problems with incompatible operating systems.

Oh, one thing I will say; you need a 2GB RAM in order to run things smoothly. Any less and you risk making things very slow.

I haven't regretted my purchase at all. I use it on a daily basis, and it's fine. Don't use PC's or laptops for gaming though, so I'm not sure about that aspect.

Well I'm glad from your single experience with it you're able to make that statement.

I'm a professional computer technician, administer the systems for a national magazine distributor and also do consulting on the side. I've installed and dealt with many more Vista installations than there are people posting on this thread. Just because you, on your one single Vista experience, have not had a problem yet doesn't mean you won't. Even a Yugo usually was able to leave the dealer's lot and get a few miles.

I don't "hear" it is crap. I call it for what it is.

Wow, so because I've only experienced it on one machine, my opinion isn't valid?

I would assume that it's not a dysfunction that Vista works so well on my machine, as I would also assume that many people have had a similar experience to myself. Perhaps it's because I had such low expectations of Vista to begin with, but Vista is fine. I've had virtually no problems with it, and considering even the beloved XP sometimes has things that go wrong, I don't think it's really correct to simply assume that I'll eventually come across a problem for Vista that will push it below XP for quality.

I would also appreciate it if you didn't act superior simply because you deal with a lot of systems. Maybe it's simply the systems themselves that can't handle Vista, in which case it would not be Vista's fault, but the computers'.

lol! and you think that a computer technician is going to suggest to a company to install vista on a machine that isn't compatible with it? AND then blame Vista for it not working.

If a computer:

A) Is sold by the manufacturer with Vista on it. Or..
B) Consists of hardware for which there are explicitly drivers for Vista available. Or...
C) Is hardware for which drivers come with Vista.

And...

D) Is well-within the hardware recommendations for Vista. And..
E) Works perfectly well with XP. And...
F) Still has problems.

Then it is Vista's fault for sucking, yes.

But a lot about what makes Vista suck aren't obscure bugs which leave open any room for debate. A large amount of the suckiness is blatant design choices/changes on Microsoft's part. "Features" as they like to call them.

So there's no chance whatsoever of the machine itself being faulty? Wow. I didn't know hardware is infalible...

Oh, and since we're talking operating system rather than machine, my Vista laptop is perfectly fine. Hence it's not crap (if it were, then there wouldn't be me saying otherwise). If Vista isn't working on other computers, for whatever reason, then it's to do with software/hardware problems. As an operating system, it's fine.

Oh, and those "blatant design choices/changes" being sucky - well that's just subjective isn't it? If that's the basis for your perspective, it's not a very good one. If Vista had tonnes of bugs that left gaping holes in security, memory leaks, high power usage etc... then I'd agree. As a piece of software that's designed in a specific way, it's both ample and accessible.

It's not like any "professional" people haven't done anything similar in the past. Believing that professionals can never do simple things wrong like that is not a very good belief.

Pressumably, you've experienced these problems yourself?...

...Heck, I read tonnes of stuff that kept me from buying a Vista machine for ages. When I finally went to bite the bullet (since most places don't sell XP machines here anymore), I had a pleasant surprise. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has had a pleasant experience with Vista...

I'm probably going to be buying a new laptop within a week or so. I've been researching whether or not to get 32 or 64 bit vista. I heard 64 bit has more bugs but is faster? Do you have any input on this matter?

A guy asks the same kind of question here, and gets an interesting reply.

I believe I have a 32 bit Vista on mine. Should be more compatible with older programs.

[EDIT] Just confirmed. I have 32 bit Vista.

Perhaps that's why I'm having a better experience with it...

I agree with you.... Why do people rant agianst vista? it's great! Things are easier to access, if you get tired of the *warning message* you can disable it! It's not that hard....

And if something isn't compatible, just right click it, click compatibility, then select windows xp!

you do need at least 2G of ram...

vista's first service pack came out which fixes alot of things....
