With all of these price drop rumors going around, it’s time for some speculation from the house that Final Fantasy built, Square Enix. Yoichi Wada, the president of Square Enix, has commented on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles getting their own forms of motion control, saying:

Present game machines already have a lot of functions: they are a network terminal, a Blu-ray or DVD player, and a gaming machine. Compared to these three pillars, the [new motion] controllers are quite limited, so the impact may be small. They are an extension of the gaming function

He believes Nintendo will release a new system, be it the new Wii with HD console features, or an entirely new console altogether in 2011. Maybe to counter the potential success Project Natal and Playstation’s Wand may see?

Personally, I don’t see this happening. While it is true the Wii is limited technology wise compared to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, it is selling very well. With this rumored price drop of $50 coming, the console will most likely see accelerated sales, which will further increase its lead, sales-wise, in the “console wars” of this generation if you will.

The Wii was released in 2006, so I’m saying between 2012-2013 for a new console from Nintendo, with all the bells and whistles big company honchos and analysts have predicted for these past couple of years: HD Graphics, Blu-ray or DVD for a disc medium, and possibly a new controller.
