Good games for a new DS owner?

I am going to get a DS soon and I was wondering what games are advised for newcomers. I am definately going to get Phantom Hourglass and probably Call of Duty 4. Any other games recommended?

Check out teh Phoenix Wright series, that's a lot of fun.

A recent release that I just picked up today and love is Space Invaders Extreme.

There's also:
Mario Kart DS
Phantom Hourglass
Metroid Prime Hunters
Tetris DS
New Super Mario Bros
Trauma Center
Hotel Dusk

That should get you started for now.

MKDS is a must have title

Geometry Wars is good but not as good as the Wii version because of slowdown (and you'll get hand cramps)

Zelda PH

42 All Time Classics (Clubhouse Games) is great if you have friends who own it too .. .. .. online 10 pin bowling with a decent handwritten chatroom for mockery? Excellent!

Yoshi's Island DS for retro side-on marioesque platforming

Professor Layton is logic-puzzle-tastic

Soul Bubbles is similar in feel to LostWinds and just as good to play

Pokemon. Everyone who has a Nintendo handheld should play Pokemon at least once

I saw Guitar Hero on Tour, but it didnt look as fun as GH3 which I have.

I don't think I have a big desire for portable GH and my friend has elite beat agents and it is...interesting lol.

I can vouch for Elite Beat Agents.

Also, Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime is one of the absolute best games on the DS.
