Default NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits Review

Name: NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits (WiiWare)
Points/Price: 1000 Points
Released:
• Europe: June 19th, 2009
• America: August 10th, 2009
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone) – PEGI Rating: 7+
Developer: Over The Top Games

NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits follows a protagonist by the name of Nyx. She is on a quest to rescue her beloved and well-known friend, Icarus. As you make it across Greece, you will be required to use the power of the Gods. These powers will help the user solve puzzles and cross many dangerous enemies and obstacles.

NyxQuest can be referred as a 2-D side scroller in a 3-D world. The nunchunk is used to move Nyx across the map and your Wiimote will be used to influence the world to your liking. You may move objects and use your abilities and powers to make it across Greece. All of the powers will sport their own special way to activate them, for example, you may use the power of Zeus to draw a path of wind across the platform. The controls fully take advantage of the Wii’s capabilities and uses them to perfection.

Visuals are above par, even challenging many of the full-out retail games on the Wii. The effects, atmosphere, and overall feel all seem to be just where it needs to be and all of the set pieces are hand drawn, making the presentation and overall motion of the game simply stunning. The music brings some Greek background and fits the game fairly well, however, nothing new or unique about the music separates itself from other games in the same arena.

The game requires you to use your detective skills and timing to solve many of the puzzles. Some will require you to move away a tall structure of pillars, others will make you fly or jump over traps, and others will require you to use your powers to make it through. All of these elements will have your brain working full time.

The game also includes two player co-op, unfortunately, the other user may only help out the first player by using special powers. Although, this game was primarily designed for a one-player adventure, nothing more.

The game is at a slow pace, working directly with the music and atmosphere. The game itself includes 12 levels, including 1 extra unlockable level. It may roughly take an average gamer between 3-5 hours to complete.

NyxQuest is a gem lost in the sea of Wii titles and has blew past many of the people’s minds. For those looking for a methodical, well done game for the price of $10 (1000 Points), it is waiting to be purchased and downloaded.

Excellent / Very Good / Good / Average / Bad / Very Bad / Terrible

It's beautiful, the soundtrack is great, the puzzles are good with a decent learning curve.. .. .. well worth the 1000 points. It is short, but then not everything has to last forever for it to be good right?

If you love platformers you'll love this.
