Well said. A few things I would disagree with are:
That Nintendo has "abandoned" the hardcore gamer...I don't believe this is the case. Of course Nintendo doesn't have AS MANY hardcore games as the other systems, but this by no means indicates that Nintendo has "abandoned" them. Super Mario Galaxy, as you said was actually pretty hardcore and a hell of a lot of fun. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was a dream-come-true for hardcore gamers like myself. It was amazing. And how bout Metroid Prime 3? That blew me away and I was literally ADDICTED to the damn thing until I beat it. Now we're faced with Smash Bros. Brawl which is going to swoop in and pummel our faces with hardcore-ness... So I don't see how it can be claimed that anyone has been abandoned. Yes Nintendo releases many simplistic casual games that are the gaming equivalent of a bowl of popcorn...but they continue to deliver fatty steaks on silver platters as well, which are keeping me perfectly satisfied as a gamer. Also, I can't seem to figure out just what everyone's fascination with Zack & Wiki is, because I have played that game pretty extensively, and while the concept is fabulous and should be applied to more games in the future, it is also incredibly frustrating, cheap, shallow, juvenile, boring and uninspiring. Everyone is jumping on this bandwagon of loving this title, and while it is innovative in its use of the Wiimote, the gameplay runs very thin very quickly, and is BY NO MEANS some "shining example" of great software on the Wii. I would show off MANY other games to people before even considering Zack & Wiki. It's just not that good! Finally, let me just say that of the many good points made in the OP, I have to EXTREMELY AGREE with the hopes for Nintendo abandoning the GODFORSAKEN FRIEND-CODES!!! I hate them. You hate them. The public hates them. How much good are they doing for anyone, Nintendo? NONE!! Drop the stupid things! That's all I got.

Nintendo has never abandoned there hard core!
Nintendo hardcore are just different than most other systems. The Nintendo hardcore are the ones that buy up Zelda,Mario games, and although based on recent sales they may not be the top titles, although they are split because they offer so much more exclusive titles. The total amounts are equal if not higher than most other consoles exclusive game sales. The top 10 selling games of all time are still Nintendo titles, although the fan base may be extreamly different than what most people consider "hardcore" it is still there and very large. Whos more hardcore the guy with every xbox and halo game made or the guy with every nintendo and mario game made? Don't answer that its your own opinion no one cares and you will get flamed for it no matter which way you feel. I agree though Nintendo needs to figure out this online, although a little slack is fine considering this is there first real attempt they need to get it right over the next year or let someone else take charge of there online. The family friendly way in this case ends up being the opposite of user friendly way that they strive for and it's gonna do more harm then help. Brawl and Kart are probably 2 of the biggest Weapons Nintendo has and although i think this will keep them in the lead maybe enough to secure it till the end of the GEN its not going to be enough to "Dominate" this gen. They still need good 3rd party support like the DS has.. Without that in the next year or 2 they will be a good seller but not something to put in the history books without it.

I agree with this whole article. I think a lot of their failings will be (if the situation remains constant) 3rd party developers not keeping up with decent games. I only think the Wii has a handful of decent 3rd party games, and they definitely need more because the product introduction is now over. They need to work on keeping interest (in games).
