If you google "Wii overheating" you'll get many reports of Connect 24 causing issues on the console.
My Wii had to have it's motherboard replaced and I believe it had something to do with leaving Connect 24 on all the time.

I just turn mine off at the wall when I'm finished with it. The last time I left it on standby for over a day, it felt pretty hot.

I always leave my WiiConnect24 on and I've never had any problems. I've also left games running over night accidently and nothing ever happened. (Although it was pretty hot the next morning.)

It's call WiiConnect24 for a reason: It was designed to be on 24 hours a day.

Same with me, I have always had mine on, ever since April of last year.
No problems with me, and it never really gets that hot.
