Here are the official sales I obtained from the gaming press. Yes, Sony has admitted they have not sold 13 million units. Don't forget when the PS3 first launched, they had over 1 million returns. A massive chunk of people merely bought a PS3 during the Ebay craze. Microsoft shares similar sales problems as over 3 million of their 360's have been returned due to hardware failure, and the consumers getting fed up. The Wii also has a return rate, but no where near Sony and Microsoft. Please factor in return rates as these consoles no longer are on the market. I think it's become clear Sony is dead last, and while they have caught up a lot, they need a miracle this year to obtain the 10 million additional units needed to close the gap with Microsoft. Wii sales are slowing down, but not enough for the other two to catch up.

Wii has been winning the world market for some time now, this is about American sales and the wii closing the gap on 360's year lead.

If you go by year to year world sales Wii has been outselling both the ps3 and 360 2 to 1 since launch date, and has even outpaced both consoles combined on the same time line.

Its not a sprint. PS3 has plenty of time to catch the 360. I am super excited for the lineup PS3 has for the next year or so.

your now counting return numbers??i would love to see some links for these numbers .I.E. ps3 return #'s and 360 HARDWARE failure #'s.i can GUARANTEE you the numbers are MUCH higher on 360's due to hardware failure then 3 million but i would LOVE to see your #'s and please dont post anything from VG ,as you would be insulting yourself more

Yes you count return numbers, especially considering most of the sales of all the consoles are determined by how much are sent to stores and not specifically sold to anyone. You count both to determine overall sales, and those are the numbers we have.

^ good point, so the 360 sales are kinda false, like the ps2, coz everyone at least got 2 ps2's

show me the links/numbers where returned 360's are counted AGAINST SALES.....i will sit here and wait adamentaly for the sources you post. this is going to be a riot

That and the fact the 360 has been out 30 months compared to the Wii and PS3's 18 months, with a year lead comparison of sales will always be false you have to go on a launch date to launch date comparison to be accurate.

Microsft is known for "missleading its sales numbers" Back in January they said they sold over 8 million copies of Halo 3, But when you look at acctual sales reports it is now going on June and they still haven't sold 8 million copies.

Of course when your including the ones shipped to the store helps but that isn't how many are sold. Most major stores have a return policy, any games not sold in the store get returned so counting anything before its acctual sold to a customer not to a store is missleading sales numbers. Returns do have to be taken into consideration, aswell as replacements, these numbers are harder to find and at best you only get that information quaterly from stock announcements.

you will never get any kind of REAL return #'s ..thats a joke..best thing you can go on is NPD..and please dont say patcher or vgchartz..

I think the wii will, the 360 hasn't had too many system buys lately because its been out for like 2 yaers now, but i think thier coming out with a new system and that might get a hella lota sales.

You can still get return numbers although they are vauge, and normally only seen in quaterly company reports.

Still returns are very little! Most often you will see repairs and replacements, that doesn't add at all to sales numbers.
Sure some people might buy say a 360 have a failure not covered by the warranty and buy another one. But that is still a sale folks. If someone likes a system enough to buy more than one after a failure then it's still a sale. This does add to the numbers but it's not a huge portion even worth mentioning.

NPD is good for american sales numbers only, you have to look at company release numbers for each region compare that to market research results like NPD and then also add in shipment and sales numbers from the major stores to get a good idea of sales. There will never be a 100% true number from any source. We won't know for a fact untill they are done selling them and give final numbers. But using the right calculations you can get close enough to know where everyone is at.
