I went to bestbuy today to get my wii and well they had 44 wiis.....I was the 50th person. It would be so bad if they didn't have you stand out in the bitter cold for 30 minutes before letting you in the store to tell you "Sorry were all out"

target at bridge point san mateo CA, there were ~84 wiis probably more this morning, i was #81 when i showed up last week, or sometime before... the guy said they got it in, but cant sell it till the 21st. he also said he would take down my info and 5 other guys's to "reserve". this morning i asked and they said "what? " (well, not really, but basicly the had no clue, and if there were reserves they will be deleted right away, no reserve watsoever.) But if the reserve thing does turn out, then theres a chance they might have some leftover... bu tthat chance is probably.. low... like.... really low. yup.
oh, they said they would def. be getting more next month. I checked up at gamestops/EBgames... online.. and it says they wont be getting anymore... huh weird. Itrackr this morning said they had it this morning.. prob. 4+... and circuitcity got some in too. its probably long gone by now though. People i suggest you use itrackr, if the stores dont update.. just wait.
i showed up about 1 hr before hand.. so it wasnt that bad.

I GOT A WII! Oh I was so excited...I went to Target in our local shopping center and there were a few people outside, they opened the doors and we all rush to the Wii section only to find they don't have any...so we all hall balls down to Best Buy a few stores down and wait in line for 2 hours...Only 20 Available, all 20 sold in less than 30 minutes...I was number 5 in line...Only problem is, once I got my Wii, I had to be at work at 10:30 and Best Buy let us get them at 10, so I had to get my Wii, go home and lay it down without playing it and go to work...now I'm off work and enjoying some intense Wii sports and Zelda...Without the help of this site, I would still be Wii-less...Thanks Guys!

Yes I was wrong in both games today. But I can't stand the AFC champions, so now I hope the best team in the NFL wins. GO BEARS. Walter Payton was one of the best running backs ever.
Congrats to everyone who got a Wii today.

I am sorry to say, I am actually having buyers remorse. While the "hunt" for one was exciting, and Wii sports was fun at first. I am now wishing I would have saved my money. The graphics are poor, the sound is limited to Pro-logic, and the games are for kids. I purchased Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess hoping to be blown away. It looked worse that an Xbox but had cool controls. It also has unlimited continues, so it is easy to beat. I am not impressed and would not call it a "Next Gen" console. The biggest positive are the controls. However it gets old after two weeks. So happy hunting, but just know the hunt is the most exciting part of the Wii.

I think that all depends on your definition of "next gen". I think that Nintendo is trying to redefine this. It seems that Sony/Microsoft want to make their systems be as life-like as possible and are more geared towards the hardcore techies, and allow one to live life through the technology.
Nintendo, on the other hand, seems to be trying to encourage people to bring their lives into the games, what with acting out movements and having so many of the games be multi-multi player. And having the system be more simplistic allows you to include people that could never get the "R1, L1, R2, L2" concept.
There are merits to both kinds of systems, but I think it's hard to directly compare the two. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Star Wars Battlefront on the PS2. But that's a "dim the lights, park on the couch, and focus entirely on the game" thing. The wii, on the other hand, is a "invite some friends over, drink some wine and take turns acting silly" thing.
Playstation/XBox is personal, Wii is social.
IMO, the Nintendo wii is so "next gen" it's old school!

I absolutely agree. When I first started thinking about getting a Wii, I was turned off because I am a techy guy. I have a beefed up PC that plays all the great complicated graphics-filled games. If the PS3 wasn't priced so over the top, I'd be posting on a PS3 forum right now instead of wiichat. I then realized that the Wii isn't about flashy bells & whistles...it is about having fun. Since I got my Wii ten days ago, I've had 2 Wii parties at my house. As Kristi said, we sit around, have some drinks and flail at the TV laughing at each other. Good times....
Additionally, one of my biggest beefs with video games these days is that I can't sit down for 10 minutes and get anywhere (the games are far too complicated these days). With the Wii I can sit down and bust out 5-7 minutes of a given Rayman/Monkey Ball/Wii Sports game and actually get something accomplished. Wii bowling, for example, I can bust out a complete string in 2 minutes under single player. And I have a great time playing.

P.S. Kristi: I added your Wii Online code to my addy book....in case you're interested in adding me.

Absolutely! Unfortunately right now we're stuck with one of the 6 or so wireless routers that doesn't work for the wii And I actually feel bad about hijacking my neighbor's connection (but not bad enough to keep me from downloading Super Mario Bros.!!). But I'll make another exception and hack again to add some of the good folks from wiichat.
We've also had 2 wii parties! We call them "Wine and Wii" parties. It's amazing the people who come out of the woodwork with an interest in the wii.
Glad to hear you're having a good time with your wii. I'm obsessed with the freaking thing. I've cut myself off from Zelda temporarily because I was starting to get into the "work is optional" mindset.
Nintendo Wii, it's fun and does a body good...but it will throw your career in the crapper!

I got my Wii Sunday at Target, they had about 35 consoles and I was 12th in line, my toes were freezing though.
As for the game console war, I was skeptical of the Wii when it first came out which is why I wasn't on line on the release date, but after playing it at other friends houses I thought, "This is a must buy."
I believe it's better than PS3 because you can get more action out of it. A game can look pretty and all with the graphics but if the gameplay is horrid than there's not much you can do.

Finally got my Wii! It happened during our snowboarding trip up to Tahoe. My wife and I went up with two other couples. The Marriott Courtyard was just across the street from the Target and GameStop. Toys R US, Best Buys and Circuit City were also on the same street (South Virginia). We decided to head over to Target at 6:30am on the 21st and wait. There were about 10 other cars in the lot also waiting, but no one wanted to be the first one in line. That is until this older lady got in line around 6:40am. Crap! We all got out of our warm toasty cars and into line. There were about 30 of us. The Target employees were super nice, came out at 7:30 and handed out 30 of the 53 numbers. So we called our friends to see if they also wanted one. In the end we ended up with 6 consoles! So if you want a Wii in California, go to Reno for a ski/snowboard trip next time they have a sale! Glad to be out of this forum!

Merc, I'll be adding if that's okay. Same with you, Kristi. ^^
I love my Wii. I have a 360 as well but it's not played as much. My cousin always comes over and plays Wii Sports with me. We often forget about the time and he stays till 2 AM! Wii is so fun and innovative and different from the other consoles.

toys r us called me today saying they got them in stock and would hold me one until closing. my mom is on her way now.
so, i've got a few questions. i'll be playing on a 56" (i think) tv, and underneath the actual screen is the speakers, which are maybe two feet. So when i'm standing, the top of the tv is up to about my chest. My only option would be to place the sensor bar on top, will this be a good position? or should i find another tv?
also, what game in Wii Sports should i play first to get used to the game? i'm thinking tennis or bowling. I want to pick a good game, the rest of my family thinks this game is for kids. i want to prove them wrong.

Hey man, that's awesome! I'm excited for you!
So Nintendo recommends putting the sensor on top of the TV, no matter what kind of TV you have.

(at least that was the impression I got)
