I agree with all the other gamers that think Nintendo has a weak competitive edge in the online capabilities of games. I believe the reason why neither Nintendo or third-party game companies have not come out with a good multiplayer online game is because it is free to us (excluding regular ISP costs). That would leave the game developing companies to pay for all the server usages from the games.
About the headset/voice chat, It doesn't really seem like it should be a big issue in most games. However, in certain games, like war/military and some sports games, it would be more of a necessity. I mean it's kinda hard to command a platoon of soldiers if you have no way of communicating with them. If a developer would try to replace that with a text based system, then such game would pointless. Reality games are only good as real as the pose. You don't see real soldiers going into war with a phone in one hand and a gun in the other. I think the department over online development at Nintendo could think about trying something with VoIP.

voice chat would be a waste of bandwidth. i dont want to listen to a bunch of tools calling me this name or that name when i win, or explain to me in detail how useless i am when i lose. i would much prefer that wasnt included in my download usage for the month (yes, australia still has bandwidth limits). i would rather all the bandwidth went to the game itself.
im yet to try the online capabilities of the wii so i wont comment on it. i think the wii friend code bit is going a bit overboard tho. the best way around this would be to have an option in the parental controls. that way if you want to link up and find random players you can, and if you want to prevent your kids from doing so, you can prevent it. and switch between the two with a password.

5. the thing about voice chat should come from the developer of the game not Nintendo. (notice the usb hub on your wii)
4.shovelware is a big problem for wii because of publishers that have their heads up their butts and i believe Nintendo may be cashin in on these titles as well which is disturbing butt wii owners have wised up and are more careful about buying games which will weed these games happen less.
3. i could not agree more. how about some platformers like DK w/o drums or kirby, yoshi, toadstool, a bowser game (kinda darker but might be fun)
2. the controller is an issue for sure but make sure to release games that require a classic or gc controller. not a bad idea at all when considering that would only help not hurt there games and hardware sales. (anyone play SSBB with a wiimote?)
1. i may be a sucker but i don't believe Nintendo is intentionally doing the supply shortage (why would they?) the truth of it is i think they were just unprepared and got overwhelmed (If you take into account the last two consoles they made fell behind fast.)
In short let me say this I believe Nintendo is doing the best they can. They are not doing as well as many would like but they don't have all the resources Microsoft and Sony have granted they make money on their consoles and games but MS and Sony also have other departments to fund their ventures. Give them some time (maybe a whole gen) they will straighten out.
