This is my prediction, I've said it a few times in here next gen is going to be a strange one. Nintendo obviously has to step it up in the graphics department and I think HD ready/playable is must next gen. Whatever Sony brings out won't be too much different than a PS3 as it will use the core components still. PS3 made Sony lose money because of the risks it took with the system, but come next gen with the core still in tact the PS4 can make money. The next Microsoft console has a code name of "Phoenix" and this could be ready or shown as early as next fall.
So next gen we shouldn't see that large difference in visuals we see this gen between the 360/PS3 and Wii they should be remotely close to each other (much closer than now anyway). What's going to give the console an edge will be innovation again and who can come up with the better idea or "gimmick". Just my thoughts..
