Also, for the people saying "we don't really care abuot the voice chat aspect of it; in fact actually good that it doesn't exist" for so and so reasons. People can choose whether or not to use the voice chat and speak when they want. Especially with friends. The friend code system needs to be trashed, and I completely agree that Nintendo is taking their "safety" policy to the extreme. Online play is what's in now; previous games and video game consoles, as well as the rise of online gameplay altogether, has made us descensitized to any multiplayer games without it. It is the companies themselves that have introduced such a feature; they descensitized us in this fashion. Now online play is "in", and in order for it to be a success, like it has greatly been, convenience and easy functionality is a must. A highly watered down version is a complete downgrade to what it has always been, and many players demand this change. I already know many people who have basically stopped playing Brawl altogether because of it. Well, it has been slowed immensely, with people going on once a weak at most, even just to see if the online has been improved and what not. I had more to say and all this was going to come out better, but my mind keeps going blank!

^I actually agree with this. It has become normal for those who've played (I haven't, besides Strikers which I was quite content with) but I think it's become normal for Microsoft and Sony rather than "all the companies". This is Nintendo's first system that offers online access and I don't think they're doing too bad. They have things like the Weather Channel, the News Channel. They've included a Wii Shop along with other interactive online channels (Everybody Votes, Check Mii Out). They took a different play on the online theme. Rather than go "Voice chat" on some games, they've made it so you can have online interactions without even purchasing a game past Wii Sports. Sure it's not perfect, and it's easy to critique the company that's been around for "so long". But they've been around a short time regarding internet, so it'll take time for them to adapt. They've reinvented what people define as video games with the Wiimote and interactive movement. They're introducing Wii Fit so people can burn a few pounds. Original right? Right. Why must everybody be so focused about the internet? They have VC lol, that's a big thing in my eyes. I'm grateful haha, maybe that's just me.

As soon as I pay for the Wii's online game play then I'll start complaining a lot more. If they mess that up then I'll start laughing at them but this is free and I don't know if they are using some other method that keeps them from running a real server to host games. Yet I think warhawk on the PS3 doesn't have any problems right? Who knows??
Seriously If they just let you host a server on a Wii that is not being used or a PC like most PC lan parties or online servers then I think it may be better because we would then get to the bottom of the lag problems. Seriously getting a 20-31 ping online is an art on most PC games.
Another thing is: does nintendo even want a fan community with all the hate it gets online? I expected MS to get way worst because of all the windows haters yet gamers are eating this stuff up. The gaming land scape has changed and there are not a lot of open minded gamers out there any more it seems. I may be wrong but the COD and QW community rock so far. I don't know if you can call that a community though , more like a fan club, club house type of thing. No mods and no user made content yet!
Maybe after all the jaded people move on from gaming nintendo may just start a real online thing.
Oyeah I find some parts of brawls online pretty funny, like betting on people while spectating ....LOL really gets you into the fight and makes you root for some one. Stuff like this needs to be in other games. I'm sure they have more stuff like that coming too. Bomber man had stuff like this also. The Wii is a very different online experience though. With the VC, opera, you tube, and some online play it's pretty different. Seriously I just need a quake 3 online on the Wii and it would be the best online hands down! Oh almost forgot it needs to be able to connect to PC servers...dreamcast style! That would be sweet and do able now that the frame rates are capped!
Also a ping meter would be nice to help diagnose a problem with your own set up.

If you need voice chat you can set up a server for that...LOL I mean if you really need it then it can be done. Hell you can even do a web cam so you can moon people too...LOL I still say that live sucks when compared to the PC... to many restrictions... yet I guess it's better than the Wii. When I get quake 3 on it then I'll have some thing to say but most of the games work pretty well online *shrugs*. Keep complaining though nintendo does listen they just pretend not to...LOL I mean a few more gens like this and they may run out of Wii like blue oceans and then have to copy MS blow for blow.

^You may do this, enjoy yourself. AIM allows people to block others. The Wii doesn't want to allow you to "B****" people out, I suppose, for good reasons.
^And... If the online was better the Wii would be sold out everywhere! Oh wait... (The word "if" holds little weight, agree?)
Nintendo's doing something right.

now would you like to waste an hour doing something internet related on a wii or 2 minutes doing the same thing on a computer? saying if doesnt exist just because youre here (probably on a computer) is just stupid.
i had to add people some way didnt i? they can come from other games i played on the computer or a forum. you think it really matters if i cant yell at them on the same system i wouldnt even be able to find those "friends" with?
and IF nintendos doing something right you think this thread would exist? WAIT.... IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU THINK BECAUSE ITS RIGHT HERE!

^Exactly lol. Spectator is an overlooked extra. (To Wiitness ID)
^To Lugia: I can honestly say that I have NO IDEA what your first two paragraphs were saying, sorry. They didn't make any logical sense to me. To the last paragraph I'll say this: Every system has problems. But the fact that Nintendo has been able to stick around for a while and attract fans (look at your sig/avy, you're a fan too bud) indicates that they are doing something right. Everything in existence is subject to critique, so the existence of this thread doesn't mean that "Nintendo, you have a below average online system so therefor you have done nothing right ever and never will. You suck." , this thread rather points out a minor flaw that gains so much hype. If every "flaw" meant that a company wasn't doing something right...

OMG I guess nobody is doing anything right! It makes perfect sense now..

whatever. the point is you arent doing everything internet related with a wii as it would be stupid too. poorly using the internet after how many years of its existence is a "minor flaw"? most great computer games are now completely based on the internet. i dont know if nintendo is trying to reinvent the wheel and people are stupid enough to buy it but im passed that.
i was a fan....i havent payed attention to pokemon gameboy games for 6 years and system games for 3.

Poorly is a word that says "this is an opinion". I don't think it's that bad.

People are whining too much, too early in the game.
I'm confident the Wii will be a contender in the online gaming industry within the next year or so. Wiiware will help a lot, in my opinion.
I do think game producers will start incorporating their own chat/friend systems, rather than the garbagey friend codes system.
My nickname in highschool was "The Wishful Thinker."
