16gb SDHC cards

Anyone know if the Wii will take these? Will the Wii take any SDHC cards or only the old SD cards? I couldn't find any info in the manual or the nintendo website that would say either way.

Ok, a bit more searching found this:

Identifying Compatible SD Cards

Not all SD Cards are compatible with the Wii console. Please read the following:

* The Wii console is only compatible with SD Cards that are 2 GB (Gigabyte) or less. Cards with a capacity higher than 2 GB will likely not work with the Wii console.

* SD Cards with a slow speed may experience slow transfer time when loading files, or may not work at all. Slow transfer times can also occur with SD Cards that have a great number of files on them.

* While any SD Card with the above specifications may work, Nintendo has licensed specific SD Cards for use with the Wii console. You can identify these cards by the Nintendo Seal on the packaging of the SD Card. The following is a list of known licensed SD Cards and their manufacturers.

****************

All I can say is UBER LAME! I want my 16gb SDHC card to have EVERY game the virtual console has ever put out.

That said, has anyone tried 4gb or 8gb or 16gb cards in their system? Did they work?

I've read posts from people who said they have 4gb cards that will work. I think it depends on the brand.

I posted about this before, but here's a quick recap:

SD spec is up to 2GB - the new[er] SDHC cards that allow 4GB and bigger are NOT compatible with "SD Only" devices like the Wii (older digital cameras, etc.).

A few manufacturers managed to make 4GB cards on the SD platform - however the SecureDigital Association has stated the only 4GB and greater cards within spec are those conforming to the SDHC architecture.

These are a *huge* crapshoot since they're "out of spec" - there are issues with the memory buffers, address lines, FAT v. FAT/32, etc., etc.

Bottom line: I wouldn't risk the integrity of my data with a card bigger than 2GB on SD spec devices.
