Was just reading this a few minutes ago, really was a nice gesture.
Also makes you wonder how much old stuff Nintendo has locked away and how many hours a day they go back and play it.

Saw this on Kotaku, shame about the pets also. I couldn't imagine what it would really be like to lose all your belongings in a house fire, must really suck.
It's cool that Nintendo did that, good to know they even offered to replace the Wii and Gameboy. Shame he lost all the other Nintendo related things. |

We were playing DDR at our son's house the day after Thanksgiving when he spotted flames coming from his garage. He's out in the country so it took a while for the fire departments to get there. They were able to stop the fire which had already spread to the house, but the garage and entire contents - car, truck, motorcycle, tools, hay for the horses and on and on were a total loss. The fire was so hot that alloy wheels on the vehicles melted or burned away. There was a lot of property damage but luckily all of the critters (including 5 kittens, two of which we're babysitting ATM) were OK. We had 3 Wiis, a PS2 and a couple DSs in the house. The DSs were lost (and covered by insurance) but the rest came through. Props to Nintendo for helping these folks out. Every little bit of help that anyone can offer will help them to get through a very difficult time. Attached is a picture of our charges with the bottom of our Wii and a GH:WT controller in the background.
