**bloody typo's - topic should say, "Wii - How to really cripple Microsoft's world of media streaming**
With the announcement that BBC have sorted their iplayer to work with our much loved Wii Internet channel, surely this shows a step forward for Nintendo in incorporating total home entertainment within their little white box of tricks.
Now... comes the big step. Nintendo, you need to add a Divx / Xvid streaming channel to the home menu. I'm sure many of the people here have their Wii connected up to a lovely LCD/Plasmer screen say 26" of greater, and also have a home computer elsewhere in the home with their collection of movies, home or feature film. Now wouldn't it be great if you could stream them across from your computer over your WiFi to your Wii. Before people go, 'Haz, you can already do that, check out TVersity etc' - I would like to point out that, yes you can stream this way, but what happens is that you're lovely Xvid AC3 6Ch films get transcoded into flash files..... A direct affect is that the quality is significantly decreased.
What I am asking for, is a media player channel, where by it supports direct streaming of AC3 Xvid/Divx files without the need to transcode. Something that matches the principle of Xbox 360's media extender feature, without all the locks, blocks and limitations.
Anybody else thing this would be a nice feature to have?
