Ever since the Wii came out, people have been speculating when there will be new Wii colors and a price cut. Well, according to a close source to Nintendo France, the Europeans could be already buying a cheaper and more colorful Wii this May.

According to the source, Nintendo will be selling the Wii Sports pack at a retail price of €149,99 rather than €249,99. This source also says that Nintendo is planning on making a Mario Kart Wii bundle, which should cost €199,99. If you still don’t like any of these options you might be happy to hear that Nintendo is also planning a third bundle which would have the Wii console, two controllers and two games. There has been no official response from Nintendo yet.
Source

I doubt it happening but there is always a chance.

I doubt they will lower the price. Eventually they will probably make new colours.

My friend was talking about that, it was supposd to go to that much and different colors and it was confirmed supposedly. I didn't find any sources though
I doubt they'll do value game bundles for another year.

You presented no such facts.

You're knowledge of business is getting to big for your own good. But of cause you've been in business longer than Nintendo.

European demand for consoles is a lot less than America that is why EUROPE is getting price drop possibly.

Read my original post, I doubted it but you also went on to call me stupid for providing a discussion point.

For a start, a Wii in England is £180 which is $360...And our demand is less.

Oh dear me.

Having studied business academically for over 7 years, worked for the company that makes a few of the chips for Xbox, Playstation and the Nintendo Home console (IBM), published two papers and had one accredited, I think you should be careful with your assumptions.

The very first law of business is supply and demand. Without supply you can not meet your demand. When demand is higher than supply you are in a position where your product sells itself.

This leads onto what is known as the product life cycle (Introduction, growth, mature and decline). To prevent a product from going into decline, extension strategies are used.

In the case on Nintendo, these extension strategies can be seen here:

Gameboy Advance > extended by SP version
N64 > extended by different colour versions.

Now, Nintendo, being the successful company that it is, knows that eventualy they will have to extend the life cycle of the Wii - possibly by introducing new colours (however, in todays age this is a very weak approach, but the effect can still be seen).

But while the machine's demand across the globe (including where you live!) is above supply (hence why oh so many people are still struggling to get one) we can safely assume that the Wii is still very much in its growth stage.

You can rant all you like, but my previous post did highlight the issue of simply quoting anything of the Internet.

Edit: The only reason a price decrease would occur is a result of the decrease of the price of the Xbox360 to around £159 (Wii being £179). However, as Nintendo see themselves as not indirect competition with Microsoft, it will be intresting to see what action, if any, takes place.

People don't buy the Wii for it's price tag, they buy it for it's offerings...

7 years is longer than a century? Oh my.

Much like stagnation and regeneration in the tourism industry.

How about releasing colours to extend life of maturity and to re-ignite the dying demand in Europe but once decline is occurring then bam something else original as an extension. Alternatives are always there.

it is still in it's infancy yes but supply is comfortable.

I didn't confirm anything, I merely posted it for people to discuss over.

*Ironic how your signature complains about grammar while yours isn't perfect =/*

Well, on a consumer stand point they are in a very competitive industry and are the closest competitors and would indeed like to succeed. I also do believe the 360 price drop is somewhat linked. The price is also somewhat linked I also believe, it was one of the reasons I bought it.

^^ funny stuff Mccloud

Do you think they will put the price cut just in EU though? Won't that adversely affect the way people see the system itself in EU (like negative sentiments about cheaper gamecubes last gen) and along the same lines wouldn't it have an affect on American consumers and other markets with high demand, looking at how their 'very popular/must have' console is going cheap elsewhere because of low demand?

Not that you're the ambassador or anything, but my Americanized opinion would just say "wii needs more soccer games" Just curious

Well, a PAL Wii isn't of much use in an NTSC due to our region receiving games months later. But as it is we're currently much more expensive anyway and the price drop would leave it around $240 anyway, similar price tags.

Microsoft implemented region only price drop also and it has worked. But yes an American out cry would occur probably but the NTSC regions have always been Nintendo's priority.

Was this a debate without calling me stupid for posting it? YES IT IS! Haz can learn a lesson here.

You are correct in saying that, people would pay any price for a wii.

Just look at all the mother talk shows such as the one which has 4-5 women going nuts talking about a wii making you healthy and such.
Even on a Current affair show just a few days ago they were hyping the wii up to being the ultimate excercise console.

My point exactly? Parents watch these shows get brain washed and do what they tell them to. Thus will pay a price for it knowing who and what hyped it up.

ah business so confusing...yet easy at the same time.
