my wii keeps on crashing and im told it is because the lens is dirty. the games it mainly does it with are ssbb and smg. i hav been told to take it apart and clean with a cotton bud/water but i do not know how to take it apart. if you hav n e other methods of cleaning i would really appreciate it. thanks for your replys

Where did you find out this information about you Wii? I don't know all that much about what is inside a Wii but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a lens.

If you have to ask, you shouldn't be doing it. Send it into Nintendo. They're cleaning them for free (even those out of warranty) if your Wii is having difficulty playing SSBB.



Of course it has a lens. Any device that reads discs has an optical lens in the disc drive.

I sent mine into Nintendo with the same problem, and they fixed the problem. It took right around seven business days for me to send in and get my working wii back.

All my games are working except Wii sports, which hasn't been working for a while. Maybe i'll send mine in too

yeah you might be right. Do you think they would just send me a new Wii Sports game?

I'm not sure about that, but just to make sure I would:

1. Check your Wii Sports disc to see if there are any scratches that might prevent it from working

2. Try another Wii Sports game and see if that works. If you know someone who has a Wii then you might be able to borrow Wii Sports just to find out.

Logically, it shouldn't be the Wii because it's working for all the other games.

Yeah its an almost perfect disk, but i'll definitely try one of my freinds' disk and see if that works. Thanks for the help

Yeah, the only other thing I could think of is that your Wii decided to play all your other games except Wii Sports. But as you can tell how can that be?

You might also want to try your Wii Sports on your friend's Wii console.

In research, this would be called a double-dissociation test =)

If your friend's Wii Sports works in your Wii console and your Wii Sports doesn't work on your friend's then this should be conclusive evidence that it's the game and not the console.

For wii sports it would be the game, not the console, because if other games play on the wii, that aren;t dual layered it should be fine.

And yes maccacool, send it into Nintendo of Australia and just say that SMG doesn't work because of the lens, because if you say SSBB they might get angry.

You...uhhhh...might want to get whoever chipped it to de-chip it. That is, only do it if Nintendo still can't figure out that it was chipped. I'd take the financial hit on getting it chipped and de-chipped over having a slowly dying console that I can't send in to get fixed for free.
