Please Help!

I didn't see a HELP BOARD, so I guess I'm posting in here.

I just finally got my hands on a wii (thank goodness for my GF wanting to go to Target to look at stuff)... and I've been smashing my head on the desk trying to figure out a way to connect to my receiver.

I have my TV, PS3, Cable, Computer plugged into the receiver, but I can't seem to get the wii connected properly.

Without details, I know that this thread is pointless... so please bear with me..

HARDWARE: SAMSUNG LNT-4671F, Onkyo HT-SR800, PS3, Wii.

The receiver has 3 HDMI slots... 1 output and 2 inputs, it also has 2 Dig. Optical slots (which are assignable)

I have the TV connected to the HDMI OUTPUT, my PS3 into HDMI Input 1, and HD Cable DVR into HDMI Input 2. The HT-SR800, unfortunately, do not have sound over the HDMI, only video. And as such, I have the PS3 connected to the OPT. 1, and the HD Cable DVR into the OPT. 2. This is connected perfectly.

I am trying to assign the Wii into the VCR/DVR slot, considering that the PS3 is in the DVD, and the Cable is connected to the Cable/Sat slot. I have everything plugged into the way it ought to be, and I still am not getting sound nor video. Any ideas?

-I made sure that the Video inputs corresponded properly. Everything works fine, except for the Wii. I even tried just connecting the Wii into the AUX input just to see if I could get it to work, but to no avail. When I had it in the AUX, I went to the TV's menu to look for inputs, but it read none...

Please help... I don't know how much desk-smashing my skull can take..

and THANKS... I hope to be a helpful member of this community

Well, I'll start off by saying that if you're not using a component cable from your Wii to the receiver, you're doing yourself a huge disservice. Your setup would support that. It would give you progressive, widescreen, and better image quality overall.

My next hunch though is that your receiver doesn't do signal conversion. If I'm reading you correctly, everything else plugging into the receiver is HDMI (which works) and the TV is HDMI. So the one non-HDMI part, the Wii, isn't working. Some lower-end receivers don't convert, so you need to run every type of output you may use to your receiver.

Start off by getting a Wii component cable. If I'm wrong on #2, that still might work around whatever stupid problem is tripping you up. If I'm right on both counts, then just run a component cable from the receiver to the TV as well, and you'll have the best possible picture from your setup.

Yeah, I figured that this was the issue and went and bought the component cable.... I'm still getting no signal..

The ONLY thing I know to do is to plug the video directly into the back of the TV and then run sound through the receiver.. but that isn't the way that I wished to run it... I want everything to be run through the receiver...

It isn't "LOW-END" per say... but it isn't Onkyo's high end either.... HDMI supports video only and not sound... which is its only downfall.. other than that... it is a fantastic piece of A/V equipment supporting 7.1 DTS.... however... is there anything other than plugging the video into the back of the TV??

ARRRRRGH

NVM... it doesn't support analog-to-HDMI conversion.... Well, I'm getting a new receiver.....I know it is a bit trite.. but I'm finicky.. I want everything to work the way I want it to.... I guess I'll have to buy the models above it..

Thx sremick
