Why do Nintendo need all of that information?

They use the information for market research. They see what is popular and what is not so they can put out, hopefully, better games that will please more people. It is actually a good way of doing it.

For them it is, saves them money, and invades our privacy. I dunno, I'm not too worried about it, but meh as long as they can use the information to improve the development of new channels and games I guess I can put up with it.

Looking at the list of just what data they harvest, I can't help but wonder why they could possibly need to know stuff like our parental control settings and whether we use the slot illumination...

I can understand the parental control settings, but like you said, the slot illumination doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

the only reason y theres so much ds crap because wii has decent games but if they were to put every crappy game out there then it makes no sense u notice only the good wii sellers r on the channel anyways looking at the ds previews im thinking of buying 1

They just want to see how everyone is using their wii. I'm sure they don't care but if they can figure out what people like and don't like then it will make the gaming industry better.

lol its kinda funny, i went and got the nintendo channel, the an hour later i got a message saying it was out.

Same here, I downloaded it then after it finished my message board said they had released it. (I had to download it twice, failed the first time)

This happened to alot of people. My message came in the middle of the night. I believe it came on sunday night.
