i want know why do most of you keep saying it luck i don't belive in luck i think it takes skills to play this game and it does. i mean it all about you timing if your in first place and you get a red box that won't protect you from red shells then drop it some where where you know someone will hit it let say behind a sharp coner or something then you get bannas keep that on the back of your bike till you get to the next item box and repeat unto you win the only thing that should be able to hurt you is the blue shell and if that does put you back there then when you get something like a star don't just you it try'n and save it till you come to that short cut so then you jump in first place cause he had to go all the way around to catch up

If only it were that simple. There's far too many other things that need to be taken into consideration, and luck is blatantly one of them.

To say that luck doesn't play a major role is silly. There's certainly plenty of skill involved, otherwise victories would be practically random and no one would be above 6000 VR or so. That said, I wish a bit less luck were involved; it seems to be a 60/40 luck/skill ratio right now, in that I have to keep picking Rainbow Road so that I can guarantee victory because it's such a skill-oriented course.

Luck.... the most important skill needed for MK.
Honestly it all about everything else but seriously ... its luck, luck to what your ? boxes give you, luck to whether bullet bills going to save you. Its like anyother mindless kinda fun game.
Skill yes is involved with starts and timing and tricks but seriously luck is always important

I love tracks like Rainbow Road, you can tell who's really good at the game on those tracks.

I agree Napalm...
You're so damn intelligent!

I couldn't agree any more. I remember you mentioned a while ago that tracks like Luigi Circuit are horrible since the luck factor greatly exceeds the skill factor, which is another point I agree with.
I love the feeling of winning on Rainbow Road after losing on DS Yoshi's Falls or Luigi Circuit.

So my luck ran out.
Warios gold mine map is very painful on a 100CC bike.... OMG
I always seem to fall off and everyone likes to kill me, who invented bats and who decided to take away the walls.
Skill factor 0 luck factor minus?

In one game I noticed these two guys were friends. Yoshi would get this insane lead, and the guy wayyyy in back would get a Blue Shell. I'm not sure if it's game balance, but if you horde a Blue Shell, no one can get another. The result was Yoshi maintained his lead and won the whole race. A very lame but effective way to win races with friends. I know, because my friend and I use similar strategies. We'd camp 2nd and 3rd place. It's more strategic to camp second place until you are confident you can pull an insane lead in first. Nintendo was aware of this, and made it common to get lightning clouds in 2nd-4th.
The game is too much like Black Jack. Sure you can card count, but even card counters still lose 20% of the time. Overall you have to play this game for fun online, because you are going to lose a lot, even if you have skill.
