I have had my Wii for 1.5 years or close to that. I have had a lot of fun with it and Wii Sports is still my favorite game.
However, I will not purchase anymore games (outside of Wii Fit) that does not have online play.
I do not think companies should be rewarded for something that has been standard in most games since early PS2/Dreamcast.
The first one that I will not buy is the EA NCAA Football 2008. If this had online play, it would be a must buy but I will not support cheap ports or 2nd rate teams of EA making games without the required features. You know EA will be advertising the 2009 version has online play yet the online play will probably be crappy with EA.
Let me use We Ski as an example. Think how great it could be to ski the mountin with other users online. You could go down the slopes and see other players in real time, challenge them to races, slamon, etc. It would be a LIVE virtual ski site with the chance to interact and compete with other virtual skiers.
I like the Wii and have enjoyed many of the games but I will not pay 50 bucks for a game that does not have online play. Mario Kart is proof how well it can work.
I do like playing with my family and friends on some games but the lack of online play with most games is just not acceptable anymore. I am going to avoid buying these games on principle.

So we make a thread about it because...?
Oh yea, it's the cool thing to do these days, let's all make complaint threads. Yay!
EDIT: I'm sorry, but I'm sick of these complaint threads, welcome to the forums, but yea not a fan of these types of threads.

You guys take these too personal. I love the Wii and I am no Nintendo Fanboy but the Wii was the most fun of the new Gen consoles. I want to see the Wii improve and get a bigger lead in the market.
I understood the lack of online play at first but 1.5 years later, it is still par for the course.
If people continue to buy the non online games then there will be no incentive for companies to add it.
And I will conceed that games like Twilight Princess do not need online play as it is already a masterpeice IMO and designed for one player.
However, how about all these golf games like Super Swing, etc. that do not have online play. Why is NCAA 2008 the only version that does not have online play?

I could say the same for you! You are telling me that something like Metroid Prime wouldnt be better with online play? Online play can turn a good game into a great game.
BTW, I am realistic about it. I would buy another Zelda without online play. I will buy some wiiware games without online play. However, I am not going to buy ported games (NCAA Football 2008) where the Wii version is the only one without online play.
Is there some flaw in the design that prevents online play from working on the Wii? They obviously figured it out with Mario Kart.

i'm in the same boat you are, but you don't see me creating threads simply for the purpose of flaming.

No, you can't say the same for me, because I'm accepting of both online and offline games. I did not say "Metroid Prime is better off without online play", did I? All I said is that games such as MP are good enough without it for now, and just because they don't have an online mode doesn't mean they shouldn't be bought.

So you ARE willing to buy some titles without online play? Should've probably thought about that before you made the thread title "I will not buy games without online mode".

Not really, whenever I try to get on Mario Kart online it's totally bugged up. Nintendo isn't known for their online. Neither is Sony, but they're a technology company, they have the resources required to have at least a decent system running. Nintendo is known for their creative games, not for their tech (obviously). Surely this will change somewhat in the future, but as of now, I don't think we're going to be seeing decent online capabilities till 2011.

Next console is coming out in 2011/12. I wouldn't think they'd try to improve greatly on the Wii's online, pretty much pointless. I'm hoping they'll put all their effort into next gen and produce something great.

*shrugs at OP* Your choice. For most of the games I don't really care. I don't get into sports games, and I generally suck at games and don't want to deal with fanboys online that do nothing but play games all day. I never hooked my PS2 up to the internet and my Wii isn't connected yet but will be soon because I want WiiWare. That and VC are the only things that make me want to play online, oh and the rare chance to play SSBB online with my brother on the few days our work schedules don't clash.
I'd much rather have a well-built game made for use on just the console, than have it the other way around. For example, every friend of mine that has Halo 3 said the 1 player mode was awful but the online made up for that. If that's the case I don't want the game. That's the designers being lazy and using the gaming masses to make their lackluster games more interesting.

I can't STAND to play with fanboys online. One of the reasons why I chose Nintendo over the other consoles. If I wanted to be called derogatory names and h0mo every second I'd choose an xbox.
If they do have online, such as Mario Kart - which rocks, it's nice not to have voice chat or anything like that. I can do without that. Enjoy your Wii and no games.

I want a polished game and do not care about voice chat myself. I had a PS2 and only played it a couple of times in years. I liked the football but the kids were obnoxious about it and found glitches and cheated.
With all that said, online capabilities should be available in all full price games outside of single player advnetures.
Tiger Woods, Super Swing Golf Season 1 & 2, and the upcoming we Love Golf especially should have online play.

Well, seems like you keep backpedaling with each post. First, it's "no games without online capabilities (outside of Wii Fit), then just no 'ported' games, then no full price games outside of single-player games. Which is it?

I admit to back peddling a bit but I was trying to grab attention
Anyways, I am serious that any full price game should have online capabilities outside a few single player adventures like Twilight Princess.
There is no excuse for this anymore. I am mainly pointing to the cheap ports with functionality removed from the PS2 version which is just sad.
Let me change my statement to make it more accurate:
I will not purchase any $50 game that has online on the other consoles and does not for the Wii.
I suspect Mario Kart Wii has set a standard for how flawless online play on the Wii can be. Now if the third party vendors will pick it up.
I am especially mad at EA because they are lazy and make money by adding little tweaks each year. It is embarrassing that they are releasing NCAA 2008 without online play.

I can appreciate where you're coming from in saying this...I really wish more games had online capability. But I'll still buy good games even if they don't have it.
I also understand everyone's point in saying what's the use in starting another complaint thread about online multiplayer? There are more of those than "no DVD capability" threads. But then maybe if people do continue to complain, developers will listen eventually. Now if Nintendo had a feedback email address, that would be better.

So basically what you're stating is that this thread is totally pointless...? Almost every Wii game is going to have online functionality from here on out. If you would have said that before the Wii released, it might have some substance, but now it's pretty much in vain.
