I am new to this forum and I am sure this has been discussed before. I am just wondering if you guys think the Wii will stay ahead of Xbox 360 and PS3?

The Wii is a perfect fit for someone like me who is in their late 30s and has a family and doesnt have much time to play video games. My PS2 just collected dust althoug I would occasionaly play Gran Turismo or a Football Game.

The Wii IS competing against the other consoles. However, the Wii also is pulling in the non gamers and adding more appeal with the Wii sports simple motion and now the Wii Fitness.

In a perfect World, the the Wii would do 1080p and have a 350GB hard drive in, play Blu Ray, etc. with it's motion controls and unique games. However, Nintendo cannot do that and make a profit or make the game affordable to the masses.

I really think the Wii will keep up with the winner of the PS2/Xbox 360 and I think there will be an Wii 2 at some point with better graphics and still have motion contnrols although they will be different and tweaked.

The one thing I am sure of is that the Wii is not fad. I have heard so many Xbox and Sony fanboys say that. The Wii is for real and people enjoy the controls when they are implemented right.

So, do you tink Nintendo can continue to outsell the other two major game systems or that the Xbox360/PS3 will eventually take over because of the much better graphics and storage capabilities?

i think wii will actually stay on top. 360 and ps3 are after the same audience and share many of their titles.

on the other hand developers are having a hard time creating games using the wiis control scheme. many long time developers spent a lot of time and effort on improving their graphics. so they are sticking with ps3 and 360 because graphics are what they invested time and money into. but if developers can come up with more creative ways to implement the controls, the wii will continue to bash ps3 and 360.

im sure many developers now see how many wiis are sold and now thinking of games they could create for the wii. i think we will also see many 3rd party developers for 2009. wii fit pre-orders are sold out everywhere how many wii fit games will their be? and now with wiiware games can be bought over night with out leaving the house. i believe i heard bomber man for wiiware.

the fact that more people have video game consoles then ever before. that is a great sign for the video game market. if nintendo continues to have non gamers become gamers, then video games will continue to improve and expand in interactivity and not just improved the graphics.

I agree with you but even if the Xbox/PS3 does overtake the Wii, the fact is the Wii has sold enough to give it a large user base already. If people are hardcore gamers then they can own a Xbox360 and PS3 with their Wii. I dont have enough time just for the Wii so I am not buying a PS3 or a Xbox360.

I will tell you I loved Gran Turismo 3 at first but it started getting way too boring. The racrs got longer and longer and it took forever. The Wii has Mario Kart which is more fun. Besides, who would want to race 120 laps on Mario Kart as it comes down to in the GT series.

The Gran Turismo looks fantastic and it looks beautiful but it just doesnt have long term play value for me. It takes too long as is missing the fun factor.

I think the Wii will stay ahead by pulling in newer gamers and a lot of people like myself that grew up with 1st generations gaming systems but now are tired of the overly complex games and like the intuitive motion controls.

Wasnt counting the Portable Units. Heck, I thought the DS was number 1 but never have played any of the portable units other than the original gameboy.

When it comes to sales, Wii won this fight and it will stay on top. But I never cared about sales, just game quality.

Wii will stay #1, and this is why I think so.

First, the visuals the Wii can dish out are actually quite decent and developers (third-party) are starting to see this. Second the storage problems you speak could be solved at E3 if Nintendo does indeed reveal their hard-drive (or whatever they plant to do about memory) and could do so alongside a headset. That would both improve the console and its online play which are some of the weaker points.

The big issue with the other two consoles is they continue to fight each other, they share common titles and duke it out over who has the better exclusives. This both leaves one of the two in the dust and allows Wii to maintain its momentum because no one else is doing their own thing like Nintendo or targeting/acknowledging Nintendo as a competitor and that will prove costly.


Well the Wii is improving on both aspects when it comes to their games, quality is improving in their titles (mainly third-party offerings) and the sales of all their games are improving. Sales of both software and hardware are what counts and the Wii could be high in both charts very soon.

Good point. This puts the Wii in the "rocking chair" so to speak as MS and Sony fight it out.

The Wii will continue to lead console sales until the next gen IMO.

There is no way the other consoles will catch up with the Wii. In fact, the Wii will continue to extend it's lead until... I have no idea . But I personally don't care about how many more hardware units a company sells after the one I've bought. It's not like I can attach two Wii units together to make an actual next gen console... kidding!

Wii will stay #1 because it is decent and far cheaper then the other systems. The economy isn't that great and come next Xmas people will count their pennies. If parents have enough money to buy a game system they will probably get a Wii based on price alone.

I only care that it is number 1 for the fact it will mean that it will get more 3rd party support and less shovelware.

I think as 3rd party games get better for the WII (Hopfully they will), then you will see less quick PS2 ports to it and acctually utilize the controls and graphics better. The wii is not a PS3 graphically but it sure as hell has better capabilities than a PS2 and they need to use it.

I would like to know the average walk out of the store price for each video game system after people bought the system, extra controllers, extra hard drive, and a couple of games.

Anyone seen a comparison. I suspect the Wii is probably around $450 by the time you get a couple of games, extra controller and nunchcuk, and hopefully rechargeable batteries. Lets not forget the SD card although 2GB ones are cheap.

Not this again. You know what amazes me. Every month they post these, the sales for the Wii only continue to climb. Why is the Wii #1? Well one major reason. The production budgets for Wii games aren't $10-$20 million per game! When a game that costs that much fails, there are only 10 game companies that can afford that loss. Yes, it's all about the money. The Wii is cheaper to produce games on, and it's games cost less in the store. I can see Microsoft making a fierce second if, and only if Sony bows out. As long as Sony is there, it will drag Microsoft down. The Wii will win by default as long as there are two consoles on the market that are almost exactly the same.
