I honestly do not know the techical details of the Wii and how it is encrypted. I do know I have read a lost of posts in multiple forums where people have mentioned that they do not want virtual console games (wiiware now) and other data to be usable on a hard drive or SDCard for fear of it opening up piracy.

Can anyone tell me if this is true? I do know technology pretty well and if you do have access to a version of some Wii Console game directly on the SD Card then a hacked version cannot be far behind.

However, you can buy a mod chip and hack your Wii now and download every major release in less than 20 minutes if you have a good internet connection.

I guess I dont see what all the big concern is from Nintendo as people will find a way to pirate games if they want to. However, I really believe the majority of people will just play legal games so long as Nintendo provides us with support for hard drives and or USB Flash cards or makes games directly playable off a SDCard.

Anyone know for sure that Nintendo will not support hard drives and such because of the concern for piracy?

there's a way to exploit twilight princess that allows you to boot homebrew without a modchip.

as far as loading VC games, only thing i've heard is that there is a watermark for each wii in the downloaded copy of the game, in order to use a pirated VC game on your wii, you'd need to strip that code and insert yours.

I looked it up and I had heard about the Twilight Princess hack but I didnt realize it let you install VC games and such. I assume someone will get the code needed to produce that exploit and produce a way to hack the game without even running twilight princess.

Piracy is always going to be out there. I dont think you can stop it but I still think 95% of the people buy their game legimitately.

Acutally it does. You woulld have to get the VC games elsewhere but it does let you install them.

I am not going to post a llnk but I am sure google could help you out.

Keep in mind if you install these VC games through an hack, who knows what problems it could cause.

They are afraid of letting you run directly from SD or a hard drive because it might (and probably would) open the system up to some exploit that will allow ppl to play iso images off them. This is how the PSP was hacked. Sure you can buy a Wii modchip, but a lot of people don't do it simply because it's too hard to install and can trash your Wii if not done correctly. An SD card exploit would be a lot easier for people to do on their Wiis.

At this point, I am hoping fot a complete hack without the mod chip so there is no resson for nintendo not to allow SDcards, USB flash, and hard drives to work on it.

Given time, all platforms get hacked in some way. It seems kind of pointless for them to hobble a system like this so that even legit owners pay the penalty. They are going to have to do something though. Otherwise Wiiware and VC will flop. We'll see...should be interesting.

You know they will create some type of proprietary memory device otherwise they would have already relased the firmware to allow hard drives, flash drives, or direct access to the SDCard.

Thats my feeling aswell, they might even change the SD card to a encrypted format with an update. Nintendo has always been the biggest when it comes to anti-piracy. Because of this they always seem to lackl behind, but they also lose the least amount of money.

How many people where buring copies of Xbox and PS2 games vs. Gamecube? How many people downloaded emulators and the sort on the Xbox.

Nintendo has always been one to not only make alot of money in gaming but also one to not get robbed for the things they make. It will probably be some time before anyone straight up hacks the Wii, and with the update system they will kill it every time they find it if possibal.

I really dont know about burnnig copies of other systems. I knew the short lived dreamcast had hacked ISO images that you coud burn it play but I really dont know the history of piracy for each system.

I did see some youtube video where a group of dorky looking kids announced they had hacked the Wii. I am not 100% positive to what they had completed though..
