I thought you had to convert mp3's to some other format when you put them on your ipod. If so then I don't see how it would work, unless software specifically to allow for an ipod was added.

I was always under the impression you could only transfer mp3s onto an ipod via itunes or something similar?

Actually, the iPod just converts it to mp3 thankfully, which is pretty standard. You can also use AAC with the iPod, which could pose a problem however, so you have a point. Rodriguez, you are also correct, with MAC and Windows, you can only use iTunes. Linux offers it's own programs as well.
