Nintendo...why? If you could just release it in a firmware...why didn't you just include it at first? Would it take just a days more coding? No excuse, you had the potential to sell more Wiis if you said it had dvd playback.
Because it would require paying a DVD licensing fee for every Wii sold. They're trying to keep costs down. This is also why they removed MP3 playback from the Photo Channel and replaced it with license-free AAC.
Good for nintendo.
While everyone and their mom think it's cool, including me of course, that a system has everything and does a lot (like 360) you're paying more for it, and you're not using it that much really.
I hate buying things I don't use, I don't know about you guys.
I have devices I use, which work a lot more better and look a lot better as well that do the same thing but better, and I see my game console as a gaming console, not a multimedia device. We're lucky we have some of this stuff, systems back in the day didn't have shit.
Oh wait, PSX had CD playback.

So what if it doesn't make toast, the Wii is actually still a good system!
Same with cell phones, I laugh at the kids who have those big-ass phones because it has a computer, camera, keyboard, etc all in one.
It's dumb. It looks tacky.
It's hardly convenient too since it's a pain in the ass to do all that stuff.
I know I'm getting a tad out of context here, however, you have to see where I'm coming from.
Everyone wants it all. Even if it sucks, it needs to be there if it's able to. I never got that logic.

Those are extra features, that you should be greatful even exist. It's nice having a dashboard to sign into and check things out, instead of it asking you to load a disc or check your memory card.
Again, they are features, meaning, extra..it's not required. They do it so you have a few things to do if you're bored, not because they have to or need to.
It's a gaming system, whether or not it has some features with media or not. People just want it all there because they've been spoiled.

Like I stated before, did you buy your wii for the games or these channels?
Do people buy the system because of the extra features it has?
Its nice but in reality, how often do you use them compared to playing games

wow, people who need to take out the wii cables to plug in dvd players need to get a new TV. i have a tv with stand which houses wii, dvd player, home theatre speakers, home threatre console, satellite box etc. sure dvd playback would be nice but not really needed

its not that its just uslesss lik i have 2 dvd players and if u need 2 drag out another console just 2 watch dvds then u have a problem vashivan is rite upgrade ur tv now lik all tvs can hold up to 3 vid/ audio cables or more but it would be nice if the wii could do it
im SAYING i have no DVD PLAYER IN MY ROOM, so i take out my ps2 so i can WATCH THE FECKING VIDEO. did i say anything about my tv not being able to support 3 audio/video cables? no.

Wow, a DVD player and Wii console isn't the only thing I have on my TV either LOL. I also have a TV with a stand, Wii, Digital Cable Box, Speakers and whatever else is there hell my GameCube still might be attached to it. That's not the point I was making, what I was trying to say was having DVD on Wii would have been nice so I didn't have to take out one or the other to make room for it (and really if your watching a movie you don't need your Wii hooked up as well so thats I take that out).
Convenience is what I look for.
