Remember that line when Nintendo was asked about bringing DVD playback to the Wii? Well apparently they were mistaken (sorta).
Bushing and Team Twiizers (the creators of both the infamous 'Twilight Hack' and The Homebrew Channel) have announced that they have found a way to enable DVD playback on unmodified Wiis through Homebrew. They plan to release it soon (sometime this week) after a few tweaks and polish. This will require no modchip. In fact, some modchips disable the use of this hack requiring a custom IOS.
Bushing had previously attempted to contact Nintendo to help them fix this little hack as it could potentially be used for backup loaders (which Team Twiizers will not be using it for), but they received no real reply so they decided to release it to the public.
|
HackMii - Team Twiizers
Nintendo...why? If you could just release it in a firmware...why didn't you just include it at first? Would it take just a days more coding? No excuse, you had the potential to sell more Wiis if you said it had dvd playback.

People probably have a DVD player already, since they cost like $20. Don't kid yourself.

I once heard of a word called convenience...
And I for one don't want to have to go around the house looking for the dvd players hen I could just turn on the wii in my room.
It's a feature that would of been useful and could of sold more, people would be more interested.

hell yea it would've been more useful
nintendo did say they imagined the Wii being a console put in most living rooms. mine is and what i hate is that since my Wii is hooked-up, i can't play DVDs. i have to go to my room, and watch the DVDs there on my PS2 :/ sucks....

Ok, let's see. What is the purpose of the Wii? To watch DVDs or play games?
Convience fine. The Wii nor a dvd player takes up that much space to begin with and there are multiple input lines to your TV, so i don't see how its a problem still.
Who are the target market for the Wii?
Is it casuals? Well they already have DVD players most likely, since they don't play video games correct?
Or is it hardcore? Well, majority of their complaints are along the lines of quality games and more HD space. So it has nothing to do with DVD playback.
Did you buy a Wii for DVD capabilities? Of course not.

NO, i did not buy the Wii because i wanted to watch DVDs.
it's called a feature. it would've been nice IF the Wii had DVD playback. i'm not complaining at all. but the fact that i don't have a DVD player, and i use my PS2 to watch my movies, it's a bother for me to be switching cables over and over when i wanna watch a movie when i'm not playing my Wii with my family.
but it doesn't have it, so oh well. jus saying it would've been nice.

Lets see, both the PS3 and 360 are not just gaming consoles. They are entertainment machines providing music/blu-ray/hd-dvd/dvd etc. The Wii is the one targeting the casual and it only is a gaming console. That's not right at all especially since they could of provided DVD playback in the first place but instead just left it and now hackers have uncovered it.

The only reason I purchased my 360 was to watch DVDs. Give me a break. Just because it's gaming console doesn't mean it can't be multifunctional.

I don't know about you guys, but I have probably 50 ****ing dvd players in my house. Hell, the toaster probably has one hidden in there, they're on everything now!
I understand it'd be nice to have one on the wii too, whynot, right?
However, it really doesn't kill me at all.
You can get one on buy.com through google checkout next to free if need be.
Who cares? You do?
Really...?
Nintendo aren't sony and MS. They haven't had DvD functionality yet, and they probably won't for the wii.
Get over it is all I have to say.
Whining about something we don't have is useless.
Play the Wii, watch movies on your dvd player. Simple.
It does not make nor break the wii, or any functionality.
That shows in sales alone. Would it be nice? yeah, sure, I guess, but it doesn't, so oh well.

The TC said DVD capabilities could help sell more Wiis.
Do you know honestly believe that is a selling point, for a 360/ps3/wii?
If they took out the DVD capabilities for the 360, would you get a ps3 instead?
Like another poster said, its a nice feature to have, which i agree with. I'm merely trying to show that this feature will not help sales in a huge way

Listen, DVD playback on the Wii wouldn't have had to been a selling point, the Wii still would have sold millions. The extra feature could not hurt the sales, only increase them.
Trust me, Nintendo is not worried about sales now.

I think it's silly people have made a wii dvd homebrew. It's neat, yes, and I use homebrew myself but,...for games (weird me), but if it feels you got more bang for your bang, then who am I to stop you? :P

I have a DVD player and a Blu-ray player (which also plays DVD's) in my theater. Yep, I sure hope Nintendo makes this available.

It would have been nice for sure, I have to unplug my TV cables on my Wii and pug in the DVD ones to watch movies, then reverse to play Wii games. Being able to do it one console would be great.
And the others are right, there is nothing wrong with being multi functional.

If your TV only has one input, why don't you get a switch so you don't have to swa | |
