Nintendo already told us that its fans should not be expecting any big releases for the rest of 2008 and that they have revealed everything for 2008. However, Nintendo hasn’t said much about 2009, leaving hardcore gamers to hope for the future. Well, it looks like the future those fans have been hoping for may be even later than early 2009. In the October issue of Edge, a Nintendo statement explains that the company does not believe they have ignored the core fanbase. Moreover, Nintendo reiterated that its teams are working on hardcore games, although none will be ready for launch in early 2009.
“We have never neglected our core gamers. We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years. These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams.”
well thats no problem nintendo because me and many others i believe will be more interrested in 3rd party offerings

I figured as such really, but there's plenty of third party games for 2008 and early 2009 that look interesting to me and Animal Crossing as well. So those games plus the one's on 360 coming out in 2008, well I'll be a busy beaver over Christmas break.
As for what games should show up, StarFox, F-Zero and Kid Icarus better make their rounds along with the Pikmin, Mario and Zelda titles. At least confirm that their in development or something. Best Kid Icarus info after E3 was people asking Miyamoto about it, and his response was "I don't know (hehe), I'm not working on that project so I can't comment". I want to see who is working on that project..

As much of a Zelda/Metroid fan...I'd rather they focus on reviving a franchise and/or throwing at least a strong and secure IP into the mix that'll last... For the past X years, it's all been about they give us a great old franchise, we eat it up, then wait for the next plate. I'd prefer to mix it up just a bit. As much as I love the company, and as proud as I am for them going from last to first financial-wise, I just think they're still a little afraid of swimming a little further away from the shore.
But like CantGetAWii said, we have a strong line-up of third-party. I hope to hear more about Sadness/Disaster this time around : ).

man, I think Nintendo should give up on the 'hardcore'... the system just CANT do hardcore!
That's a ridiculous statement. By that logic, no hardcore games every existed until the 360 and PS3. Obviously that's the not the case - there were loads of hardcore games on the PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast, N64, etc... and the Wii can easily outdo those systems. Just because it can't do hi-def graphics doesn't mean it can't do hardcore games.
No, hardcore games existed back in the days. gain, not really ever on Nintendo systems tho...
The last hardcore Nintendo game was Goldeneye. As it was a full on multiplayer experience, hard to beat on the hard difficulty settings. Was a FPS. Broke new grounds. Had amazing graphics (for its time).
Nintendo hasnt really done online properly, and I think nowadays thats needed for a title to be considered 'hardcore'...no trash talking...no hardcore.
...had those tedious friend codes, didn't let you customise very much (even when racing against friends), had no chat function, and had no free-for-all battle mode.

But Microsoft and Sony have already mastered online play. With all of this cash Nintendo is raking in, the Wii is due for an online overhaul, right? Too bad Nintendo is just interested in putting out more gimmicks that will make them more money. The Wii Motion plus and Wii Speak look like cheap add ons that won't get implemented well into most games.
There aren't many core games for the Wii, and most of the decent games coming out are going to be third party. We don't even know if half of them will be decent. I'm not some "Wii Hater" or anything, I payed over 200 dollars for the console, and I expected to get my moneys worth. Nintendo needs to get their act together.
