I got my beast for $1300 a year ago and its a cracker.

BTW 8800GTS is still damn good value for a video card. And 2Gb with XP is still fantastic. (You'll need 3Gb Min for Vista tho).
Also with XP Dual Core can still do most jobs fine, as not THAT many programs even support Quad Core (although more are starting to now).

brisbane is 600km's south from me quite a long way.


i was considering going for the XPS 420 or 630 from dell. as i wouldnt mind dabbling in a few online games. and i need something that will handle multimedia programs (reason,visual studio vocaloid )

yeah i checked them out this morning, some have ram upgrades ( 3 to 4 gig) and HD upgrades. aswell as $200 cashback.

if i go for dell i'll be doing it online.

na it wont make it that far . but anyway. ill be going around to comptuer stores tomorrow anyway. as i will be all over the city.so i'll have a look around. roads should be fairly quiet too not like weekends, makes me happy that i've got a week off

Okay, boys make yourself useful and help me out.

I have two DVD players in my house (two crappy cheap ones). Anyways, yesterday I bought Donnie Brasco - the first time I watched it, when it got to one particular scene it just went black for about 30 odd seconds, and then when it came out back on it did two slightly different things in each DVD player

In the first, it went many different colours, fuzzy, bright colours going over the screen. Hard to tell what was happening - although, it did resemble humans enough at one point to see someone getting shot, and with Al Pacino sticking his head in somewhere during the attack. So, basically major stuff up. I can deal with it playing up on a few scenes, but like I said - various colours flying around the screen. And not good.

On the second DVD player, (which I had packed away because it didn't really like to load DVDs often enough) it loaded up and played... So, I go to the scene where it first started going black - it didn't do anything. It just got stuck in the scene selection page, while the loading pie thingy on the player screen spun around like crazy. With no progress, not responding to any clicks, in the end I turned it of, and started again. This time I started on the scene just before the black scene, and waited... When it got there, black for 30 seconds (like 1st DVD player) and then when it came back on... Well, fuzzy - not as bad as the 1st time though, but just taking forever to get anywhere, until finally it got stuck.

So irritated with my DVD player, (and before the 2nd DVD player attempt) I put it into my laptop. And it played perfectly okay. It didn't go black, it didn't go nasty shades of green. NOTHING.

Anyways, I was thinking of just taking the DVD back and abusing staff until I got my own way. But a similar thing has happened to me before. I bought an I Dream of Jeannie season that one DVD in particular wouldn't load - but it would load on the laptop. But not in my DVD player (I only had one at the time), yet naturally it worked on the Big W DVD player they tested it on. Yes, they gave me my money back for I Dream of Jeannie, but it's kinda annoying when you complain it doesn't work, and then it DOES work for them.

It's also not the first time these DVD players have decided to throw in shades of green and the like. When I hired out the Godfather Part III - it got half way through and decided that I'd be better off only watching for the first hour. It got to a certain point, when the shades of green etc, and then kinda died... But when I changed DVD players it was much happier and played fine, and played fine. Well, except for the fact the DVD remote was broken - but that more of an inconvenience more then anything.

So, bitch and complain to Big W about their DVDs, or buy a new DVD player? Unfortunately my players have expired warranty so I can't complain to wherever I bought them from. Like, it doesn't seem right that Donnie Brasco would stuff up in a similar way in the same spot in different DVD Players, but work PERFECTLY okay in my laptop.

just pick up a new dvd player. both of your old ones must have died if they work on your pc and not on them. but to make sure try it on a friends dvd player. assuming you have friends.
