I'm starting to get back into Design and editing and stuff...Only thing is.

I know that school will crush my love for it as it has done with so many other things. I have so much excitement to do things but as school takes up more time, I don't get to do anything else. I'm kind of looking forward to uni at the moment...But there's 3 ways I want to go and I suppose one can be an on-the-side thing and the other 2 ...I have to schoose between, but damn I hate school sometimes.

HEy eagles, Have you done any Geology at Uni? You learn about Fracture points, crystal habit, cleavages ( its a scientific term so get your mind out of the gutter guys)

Basically, as Eagles has said, Alot of rocks break in perfect shapes. For example, Graphite Has one cleavage, which means one layer of rock material in one direction. You can take a hammer to graphite and break it, No matter what you do to it, the peices that break off will remain the same shape.

Another example is Gneiss crystals. No matter how many times you hit them, they will break up into cube shapped peices.

SCIENCE. It's interesting stuff.

I love me some earth sciences.

Oh and about the Myans thinking 2012 is the end of the world. I dont think its true. They had to end their calendar somewhere. Think of it as like the Y2k bug. Nothing happened then. IMO the world will end in two ways. We will destroy it ( I hate to say it but im sure this will be the way it happens if we continue our current ways) or it will occur naturally (being burned up by then sun as it goes through its normal stages as a star. Eventually our solar system will cease to even exist at all as the sun will swallow us up.

After the sun fnishes its life as a main sequence star (9 billion years) In the Sun's core nuclear fusion of helium into carbon and oxygen will start to trigger even further the expansion of its outer layers. The helium-rich core is unable to lose heat fast enough and becomes unstable. In a very short time of few hours the core gets too hot and is forced to expand explosively. The first planet to go will be mercury(obviously) after that the sun will have accumlated enough carbon in the core so that it does not have explosions.

The Sun will expand a final time and after about 30 million years it will swallow Venus and Earth, outer layers will keep expanding outward and as much as half of the Sun's mass gets lost into space.

It then becomes a White dwarf. All matter will collapse into a small body about the size of the Earth. Thus, the Sun will have become a white dwarf, this is a dense-matter configuration, having radiated away the energy of its collapse. Then the white dwarf rapidly begins to cool.

and finally, a Black dwarf. As a carbon-oxygen-rich black dwarf it will continue its journey through the galaxy (milky way) and may eventually encounter another giant gas cloud to become involved in the birth of a new star.

Did I mention I love Science? The Universe is an amazing thing. So is science. Shame alot of people are too narrow minded to understand the sheer greatness of it.
Just think, We havent been out of our own solar system, let alone our galaxy. Simply amazing.

Anyway, it seems I was the only person in my family that actually liked the Shining. My brother says it was boring and nothing happened, and my Mother apparently said it was the worst movie and that nothing happened. I thought plenty happened? Or do people get bored when there isn't an explosion every five minutes?

Pretty much.

Plus its actually a pretty long movie. Unless you were interested in it, and could be bothered redearching it, I spose you would get bored.

Also shows how one-dimensional most movies are these days.

"oh...hes the hero..he kills everyone, then comes out on top"
is there more to it?....no thats it pretty much...

The Shining had many deeper and running underlying themes, plus it was creepy in parts, and you could also laugh at certain parts, disturbing as they were...it was a brilliant movie. :P

The version I watched was only about 115 minutes. Although, I read that was a cut version. But 115 minutes isn't that long at all.

But meh, I really enjoyed it. It's strange because usually Mum and I have pretty much the same taste in movies. Yet we seem to have a vastly different opinion about this one.

I get really annoyed when people complain about a movie being too long and then, complain that when movies are short they skip over important character development and stuff.

During Heat when my brother got to the 2 hour point he was like 'God, this movie is going on forever!' Heat is nearly 3 hours, but the point is this was at TWO hours, PLUS huge gun fights. Jeez, I would prefer to pay money for a LONGER movie, then paying the same amount for a 1 hour and 20 minute movie.

EDIT - Looks like I was wrong. Mum DID like it. My brother got it wrong when he told me she said that. All she said was, she didn't think my brother would enjoy it. And he didn't. 2 hour movies are wayyyyy to long for him.
