you can get convertors, you can buy a program that converts files to a wii media format, i spose you put it on an SD card and just select it from the memory page on the wii..

but somewhere else on this forum some one said about getting a free one, but the one you can buy is on the game.co.uk website i think. or play.co.uk

I fail to see why "you can buy a dvd player for $30" is not a legit answer. Because it's the truth. And it's cheaper than a Wii game. And the Wii was never meant to be nor advertised as a DVD player.

Not legitimately, it won't.

Some people have broken into the software and installed hacked-up code that will sorta play some DVDs poorly sometimes. However, considering how badly it performs (many DVDs are choppy and slow), plus the fact that you don't get a real remote, plus the fact that you don't get digital audio or surround sound from your DVDs, plus the fact of the cumbersome effort to get it into the hacked state, plus the fact that it's not supported by Nintendo and could be disabled by them at any time, makes this a non-solution. But mostly because the performance sucks.

Why waste hours dicking around with your Wii to make it into a crappy DVD player that is painful to watch DVDs on, when for $30 you can have a real legit DVD player with a real remote and digital surround sound?

Hell, look at it as a $30 real DVD remote with the DVD player thrown in for free.

ive never had a performance problem with any of my dvds, and i dont have fancy sound, so thats not a problem either, and the wiinote works fine as a remote.

This is 2008. 5.1 digital sound isn't "fancy". You can get an entire 5.1 surround sound system plus DVD player for under $100.

Seriously people, what's your time worth? People need to stop bitching about the Wii playing DVDs. If any of these people had spent the same amount of time flipping burgers as they do complaining on the internet that the Wii doesn't play DVDs, they'd have earned more than enough to buy the DVD player they say they supposedly can't afford.

This reminds me of the practice of carbecuing....where you can shove food into your car engine compartment and cook up a meal using heat from the running engine. There's a potential for fires, damage to the engine and toxic fumes getting into your food, but it sort of works.
