I'm thinking of buying a Wii for my grandchildren for Christmas. Due to the availability of Wii consoles, and how close we are to Christmas Day, I'm considering going the EBAY route to buy one. Watching the auctions these past few days, I see that there are some differences that concern me. A lot of the items are described as 2008 version and they seem to sell for considerably more than the ones that aren't. Is there a reason for this? I realize that there are multiple #'s of nunchucks and remotes, and games, but it appears that the ones marked '08 sell for $50-70 more. Does anybody have an idea why? Thanks

Most likely just because they are newer. Less wear and tear on them if they are used. There are no hardware differences between newer and older consoles (as far as I know), just the date of manufacture.

Remember to check Craigslist and the paper also. There's a lot of outrageous scalping on eBay.

bradleyd is right. As far as I know, there's no difference between Wiis made in 2006 and Wiis made in 2008. Some people are comforted by the newness of it, I guess. But if I were you, I'd buy a brand new one anyways, so it wouldn't really make a difference.

Thanks for the responses. I am planning on buying new. I have an aversion to buying used electronics.

I used the site Wiialerts to get one about a year ago.

WiiAlerts Wiipage.

There are a few bundles available right now....the Toys R Us one is the cheapest and isn't a bad deal....it's as cheap as anything you will find on Ebay.

I was able to get a Wii with that site fairly quickly and I didn't even sign up for the text alerts.
