why wouldnt it? its not sending light waves to the reciever. wouldnt it be radio waves? or infared?

Well, you can change channels in the dark, so it should be no different using the wiimote.
Oh, and Mr_Stoukaph, I like your signature with multiple sayings. I can't decide whether I like the red one or the turquoise one more. The white one comes in at a close 3rd.

Well the system works on bluetooth technology, so it doesnt mind if it is Day, Night, Evening or whatever it will work also in a cave
