New Super Smash Bros Brawl Wii-details -
Posted by supadupagama in News (Monday July 10, 2006 at 10:56 am)
On the official Japanese homepage for Super Smash Bros Brawl (SSBB), there was a request for Japanese fans to send in their comments and thoughts about the upcoming game. In a section called Toukou, the game’s director/creator, Masahiro Sakurai, updates the page with 10 emails from fans weekly and personally responds to one of them per update. In Sakurai’s responses, he recently released some new SSBB info:

#31-40: Non-Nintendo characters added into the game MUST have appeared on a Nintendo platform. They cannot be from a manga/anime. The tentative number of non-Nintendo characters to be added after Snake is 1-2, but this can still change.

#71-80: The speed of the game will be “moderated.” Unclear whether this means slower or faster, but slower is more likely. This comment was linked to another in which Sakurai states that every character’s ability is being refined from the very beginning in order to allow “more freedom” in aerial combat.

#81-90: Not all characters from Melee will return (hopefully that means no more copies of the same character).

#111-120: They are not currently working on a DS version, but Sakurai doesn’t directly say that there won’t eventually be one.

#121-130: Just like in SSB and SSBM, in SSBB some attacks will be weaker than others on purpose.

#141-150: If they add online functionality to the game (they are still working out technical difficulties), they do not plan to add a ranking system to online battles.

#161-170: “This time, we’d like to stress easiness over the small details of combat, so overall it might become somewhat easier.”

#171-180: Now that Smash is world-renowned, they don’t want to include characters only popular in Japan. However, due to the success of the Fire Emblem characters, they still may.

#251-260: Sakurai will eventually reveal all the secret characters (unknown if this is before or after the game’s release), and he will make Snake (and all other guest characters) into an unlockable character.

#281-290: “We will create this game with balance in mind.”

Which means whatever the person whom the translator translated into english is modifying SSBM engine to suit Fans of the SSB series when it comes out next year.

Mind you, he also was the creator of Meteos, a DS Game.
