Protecting Otori?!?!?!?!

How the hell are you supossed to protect Otori in that courtyard of hell that he takes you into!?!
My reasons are four fold-
1 there's no cover
2 he just sits like a girl in the corner
3 my focus wont work properly, and
4 there must be 101 ninja's in there with a bigger hate for me than Gorden Brown on buget day!!!!
Any help would be much loved!

Get the ninja's attention and go back inside, wait for them to come to you. When they come inside just give them a quick head shot and there should be only 3 that come inside, two more one the balcony, and maybe a few left in the courtyard.
Otori won't get shot because he hides behind a box or something.
