Notice: yes, I have read the rules of this forum and there is no other thread about this. this is not a MK thread and also neither Naruto nor Bleach thread.

Hello,
Me and my friends have been wondering whether (and mostly how) we will see good fighting games on the Wii in the future. To be honest, I expected Mortal Kombat to be a good fighter for the Wii, however, many reviews complain about the motion sensing in this game. One of the Wii advantages are the motion sensing, but fighting games are played too fast and require accurate control so it may be too hard to use motion sensing in them.

So how the developers have chosen to handle this problem? So far I have seen 3 different ways:
- Motion Sensing during battle, but only for special attacks (like in Mortal Kombat Armageddon)
- Motion Sensing during cut scenes, done by one player (like in Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution)
- Motion Sensing during cut scenes, done by both players simultaneously (like in Bleach)

About other fighting games: we still don't know the full controls for SSBB, DBZ plays a lot differently than other fighting games so it's hard to compare.

In Mortal Kombat
You use gestures with the wiiremote for special moves (fireballs, teleports etc). They chose some different moves like up-down, left-right, half circles, which they hoped will be easy to use. The good side about it, is that you don't need to exit the battle and go to a cut scene, plus you only need to use gestures for special attacks and not normal punching and kicking. The bad side, a lot of players complain that sometimes the gesture doesn't work and it is translated to another gesture instead, thus ruining some battles.

In Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution
You do the gestures when you attack and move to a cut scene. Then you are instructed which gesture to use in order to perform that move. According to the videos, only the attacker uses the gestures and the defender waits for the end of the cut scene. Like bleach, this game is not out yet, however, we can still understand the pros and cons of them. The good side is that you have more time to be prepared for the making the gestures because you are not during battle. The bad side is that your opponent is being left with nothing to do during that time.

In Bleach
When a cut scene arrives, the two players are being competed with the gestures. One player is instructed to do a up-down motion, while the other player needs to do a right-left motion. The good side, is that both you and your opponent use gestures during the cut scene, so nobody is being left with nothing to do. The bad side is that, this can be a problem if they chose more gestures (we don't have information about it) to perform and some gestures, like in MKA, will be recognized as other gestures.

So which way of implementing gestures would u like to see in Wii fighting games? Or maybe you don't really like fighting games to begin with? Do you have any other idea how the Wii's advantages can be used in fighting games? I know a lot of you are just waiting for SSBB (like me) to see a good fighting game, but the Wii really lack in fighting games (non-virtual console).

IMO, I think the bleach way is the best since you and your opponent are still kind of participating in battle. I really hope to see more games from this type in the Wii, since I lack good games to play with 2 friends simultaneously.

That Bleach game looks really annoying. I have to give it credit for being kind of different though...

BTW, that video somewhat changed my mind about Mortal Kombat. I might get it once it drops down in price. Thanks.

BTW...again lol. I'd like to see a new Powerstone.

Here are some more videos:

Mortal Kombat:
The gestures are the developers' way of trying to make the special moves become more intuitive. You can't get more intuitive than a up-down for teleport, or backward-forward for shooting lasers forwards - in theory this could be great and feel simple. I noticed that most of the complains were about the half circle motions, since a lot of times they are being confused with the up-down or left-right motions.

Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution:
In this video you can see Sakura fighting Sasuke, and Sasuke fighting Gaara. Like in MK, in Naruto CoNR you also "feel" like you are actualy making the special move of the character. Nevertheless, your opponent still can't do anything but waiting during the cut scene.

Bleach:
Here is a Hitsugaya vs Matsumoto fight. You can see that the two players are competing with the wiimote gestures during the cutscene. It feels less "real" than MKA or Naruto CoNR, but at least it allows both players to use gestures simultaneously.
