I never stand up when playing Wii unless I'm joking around with my friends during a game of Wii Sports.

Not at all. It will improve gameplay in your case, apparently.

The motion sensing will work if you're standing up or sitting down (within 30 feet). However, if they sensor bar is not put in a correct spot, then you will have to point the Wii Remote oddly for it to pick up the sense. I suggest putting it above your TV so you can easily point it up while sitting and keep it level while standing.

Yeah I would put it up top as well.
Plus standing is so much better than sitting, you have more fun standing.
