metroid prime 3 faq

======================================
1) Introduction
======================================

Hey there, welcome to the Metroid Prime 3: Corruption FAQ. This topic will cover everything that we currently know about the game, and should hopefully answer any questions that you may have.

If you feel that I'm missing something that should be added, please, do not hesitate to tell me. And if you have a question that isn't answered in this topic, go ahead and ask. Hopefully I, or another user can answer it for you.

======================================
2) General Information
======================================

- History

Metroid Prime 3 was officially announced last year at Nintendo’s E3 2005 press-conference. While no solid details were given, Nintendo did show a short teaser trailer, although it was later confirmed to be running on Gamecube hardware.

A few small details were later given in August 2005 during an interview with Retro Studios. The most notable parts were that Metroid Prime 3 would be the last game in the Prime trilogy, and that "The plot of Prime 3 is about closure, told against the backdrop of an epic struggle".

But it wasn't until May 2006 that Metroid Prime 3 was fully unveiled. During Nintendo’s E3 2006 press-conference, the first ever footage of the game was shown, and the official title of “Metroid Prime 3: Corruption” was announced. A playable demo of the game was at Nintendo’s E3 Booth, and it was around 20 minutes long. Many details have since been announced.

- Release Date

Nintendo have confirmed that Metroid Prime 3 will be a Wii launch title. Currently, a specific date has not been announced, although Nintendo have said that the Wii will launch in November in USA and Dcember in UK.

======================================
3) Story
======================================

- Plot Summary

Dark Samus and the Space Pirates have teamed up. Together, they travel from planet to planet corrupting each world with Phazon seeds. The Galactic Federation have responded, and a war between the Space Pirates has erupted. The time to act is now. Samus Aran must stop the chaos as she travels across various different planets collecting new upgrades and abilities. Can she stop the Space Pirates, and finally defeat Dark Samus once and for all?

In the E3 demo, we see how the game begins. A Galactic Federation base is being attacked by a group of Space Pirates, and it is in critical danger. Samus Aran has received a distress call, and she rushes out to aid the Federation. Upon landing, Samus learns that she must boot up a generator to restore the defense systems. Little does Samus know that Ridley awaits her in the core of the Base.

- Characters

The following is a list of confirmed characters and enemies:

- Samus Aran
- Dark Samus
- The Galactic Federation
- Space Pirates
- Ridley
- A mysterious “Ice” Hunter

Throughout the game, Samus will also encounter various other Bounty Hunters. It has yet to be confirmed whether or not any will return from Metroid Prime: Hunters for the Nintendo DS. In the E3 demo, Samus meets up with a mysterious Hunter that travels around on a suspended layer of ice (other users think that it may be Phazon). Retro have confirmed that it is not Noxus from Metroid Prime: Hunters, although many users have speculated that it may be a Vhozon.

- Timeline

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption takes place after the events of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and sometime before Metroid II: Return of Samus. It will be the last game in the Metroid Prime trilogy. Below is the official Metroid timeline:

- Metroid (Zero Mission)
- Metroid Prime
- Metroid Prime: Hunters
- Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
- Metroid II: Return of Samus
- Super Metroid
- Metroid Fusion

======================================
3) Gameplay
======================================

- Genre

Despite what Reggie said during the E3 2006 Press-Conference, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a First Person Adventure, just like Metroid Prime 1 & 2. Yes, Reggie was wrong. Nintendo even have it officially listed as an FPA. The game will feature a slightly stronger focus on action, but it still has the classic Metroid gameplay.

- Weapons, Abilities and Upgrades

The following is a list of confirmed weapons, abilities and upgrades that will appear in Metroid Prime 3:

- Varia Suit
- Power Beam
- Charge Beam
- X-Ray Beam
- Missiles
- Morph Ball
- Morph Ball Bombs
- Grapple Beam
- Combat Visor
- Scan Visor
- X-Ray Visor
- Gunship Visor
- Screw Attack
- Space Jump Boots

- Gunship

Samus will use her new ship to travel between the different planets in the game. However, this will occur in cutscene form only, as you will not be able to manually pilot her ship. Players will still be able to interact with it though, as by the use of a new Visor, Samus will be able to call upon her ship from the ground. In this mode, Samus can signal air strikes for extra support, or destroy any obstacles that may stand in her way.

- Hyper Mode

From an interview with Retro Studios, we have learned that Samus has been infected with Phazon. Throughout the game Samus will be able to enter a “Hyper Mode” by drawing from the power of Phazon. She can enter this mode in either normal or Morph Ball form, and her attacks will become much stronger. However, her health will be in danger, so Samus cannot overuse this mode.

- Beam Stacking

Unlike in Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2, the different Beams will no longer be separate. Instead, they will stack upon each other as seen in Super Metroid. This way players will no longer have to constantly switch beams to open doors and fight enemies, making long-distance travel around the environments much easier. The Grapple Beam will also have similar stacked upgrade effects.

- Grapple Beam

In Metroid Prime 3, the Grapple Beam will be used in an entirely new way. As well as being used to swing across large chasms, it can now be used offensively. In the E3 demo, players used the Nunchuck's accelerometer to withdraw the beam. Many Space Pirates will come equipped with a Shield, and you will have to remove it with the Grapple Beam before you can damage them. Some doors will also have a shield that you will need to remove. Retro promise a lot of other unique uses. The Grapple Beam will also have various upgrades, too, unlike other Metroid games.

- Difficulty

The difficulty in Metroid Prime 3 will be slightly decreased from Metroid Prime 2. Retro Studios have noted that many players found Metroid Prime 2: Echoes too difficult, and thus they never completed it. Metroid Prime 3 will be more accessible, but hardcore players will still find a challenge.

- Online

Metroid Prime 3 will not feature an online multiplayer mode. However, Nintendo are considering support for the Wii-Connect-24 service. Currently, no further details have been announced.

- Controls

The Nunchuk attachment will be used to move Samus around, and the Remote will be used for aiming. The A button will be used to fire the Arm Cannon, and the B button on the underside of the Remote will be used for jumping. Weapons will be selected with the D-Pad, and the Morph Ball will be activated by the Nunchuk unit.

Lock-on will once again return, but Retro has noted that a lot of enemies will be able to break it, and that free-hand aiming will be required for some parts. Lock-on will of course be optional, and unlike before, you can play through the entire game by manually aiming.
