anyone here play phantasy star 2? i saw it on the shop channel and it looked good, but i just thought i should get the opinion of my fellow wiichaters first
It's a decent game for a Virtual Console game. You just have to put in the time and effort for it. It starts off slow, but gradually builds up.

Practically anything with the name Mario in it is popular here. Hell, there can be a game titled Mario's Bag of Shrooms in which the objective of the game is to eat as many shrooms without having a bad tweak...hell I bet you it will sell just as much as Mario Kart Wii, or possibly even more. And the issue I have with the game is that it has no creativity. Sure motion sensing is great, but you'd expect a lot more from this game, considering there's a Double Dash and so forth. Hell, play the DS version, it's one of the better Mario Karts out there.

Yeah I played the DS version, never really saw why everyone really liked it. I mean the power sliding was really abused when playing online which sucked some of the fun out of it.
I thought the trick system was well implemented and the racing felt smooth in MKW.

Funny because I like Mario Kart although it is admittedly quite simple in it's objectives, but CAN'T STAND Smash Bros. because it is (to me) the most boring game I've ever played on any system at all. Way too repetitive and just a bunch of button smashing.
Gotta figure that's how all these games sell, differing opinions. As for the Mario Shrooms comment....I think the reason SSBB sold so well because of all the hype and load of characters in it. Worse than Mario Kart selling "because it had Mario" in it. SSBB sold because it had even more classic characters in it, not because it's actually a solid game.
FYI - Not meaning to bash you or your opinion, just making sure all viewpoints are seen since you bashed a game that many love. There are lovers and haters of every game.

Play Mario Kart DS, then play Mario Kart for the Wii. You will see many of the features they decided to not add. Sure there was the whole power sliding/snaking issue, but that was one of the minor things that were in it and I didn't really mind if it was out or not. As for Smash Bros. being button mashing, that's far from the truth. Anyone who button mashes, is practically going to get themselves killed. Then again, I use a traditional Gamecube controller, opposed to using a Wii remote or Classic controller. The reason Smash Bros. sold well, same reason as with the Mario Kart is simply because of the fan base from the previous versions. And it even got people more antsy with the announcement of Sonic and Snake being involved in the game, and finally having the announcement of WiFi play. As for Smash Bros. not being a solid game, I beg to differ. I suggest trying out the other Mario Karts, and you will realize that they made this Mario Kart too casual gamer friendly and missed out on it's die-hard fan base in general.

You may be 100% correct. I'm not a follower of any of the previous Mario Karts and not much of a Nintendo fan at all until the Wii came out. I think you're right for sure about the whole fan base issue though.
Get Mario Kart 64 on the Virtual Console, alongside F-Zero for the N64. Also an F-Zero game is coming out to the Wii soon, so that may be something for you to look into.

I'm also a fan of Mario Kart Wii (and have played the SNES, 64, GCN, and DS versions), but I dislike Brawl.
As you compared Mario Kart Wii to MK: DS, I compare Brawl to Melee, and quite simply, it fails (IMO).
Can you flesh that out at all. It fails by being slightly better than melee. I think the only fault of the game is being a bit to similar to melee. I dont find that a fault necesarily, just a missed opprotunity to make the game even better. I don't see any reason why anyone would enjoy melee and not brawl, unless they were just being cynnical for the sake of being cynnical about brawl.

Please elaborate on why you dislike Brawl. Was it due to it not having clone characters as Melee, or because the story mode was a bit long? Overall, the control mechanism was the same (if you use a Gamecube controller) and the characters seemed more balanced than the previous entities. That's why I disliked Mario Kart, it was too simplistic and gimmicky compared to the other entries. The tracks seemed boring and uninspired, and the tracks that were decent were the ones that were usually the "Retro" ones.

I agree with you on that one too. The retro tracks were by far the best. The characters were a bit easy to unlock as well and this installation of Rainbow Road was crappy at best. The wi-fi made up for many of the faults, for being the first wii game with decent wi-fi.
