help with shrek the third!

I am stuck in the castle with Fiona and she has to jump on the spiral box to lift the gate. It only lifts a bit when you jump on it. how do you get it open?

I've never played this game. I assume you have to make shrek jump on it or make fiona carry something to make her heavier
