You've got to unloch Mii outfits first (there are two in the game). I don't know how exactly to unlock them, but you can check the guide on IGN.com. I already have my Mii unlocked but prefer not to play with it because it has an annoying voice.
boosting is fun...drift for longer-first it goes red...then blue.
Bikes dont get the extra drift boost-because they do wheeleies....which gains extra speed.

I know some of you are gonna come out and say "no way, you're crazy, game looks great" and defend the game and whatnot, but the fact is, like it or hate it, we have to face it, the game isnt looking good at all. The graphics are gamecube standard at best, theres only one racer per car (why they would resort back to this from double dash which was so successful i have no idea), bikes seem like a bit of a high point compared to cars however based on reviews their nothing to be amazed by and there's no online stats tracking or anything like that. They have added no new twists to races other than maybe 2 or 3 new items and "tricks" which are going to become a bit repetitive and useless during a race thus seeming useless. I know some of you would disagree with me but you can't deny the fact that this ones looking dull and not the game we've been waiting for.
I totally don't agree with you the graphics are pretty decent for a wii game one racer per car is pretty disappointing, but not so disappointing you make a big deal about it there is actually online stats in online. I like the tricks it is taking a different leap towards the series.
I disagree with you.
On the wii the graphics are a lot better. and the coarses are a lot funner.
And there is three extra weapon things.
I am so glad I got it.
On the DS it's far to easy, I htink. same with GC.
but with the wii. its hard. and its easy at the same time. lol
If you dont have it for the wii. I seriously recommend it.
I'm saying this in contrast to my original thoughts:
Online appears to run smoothly, so that'll take care of those worries.
But I'm still not happy about things being gimped.
It remains a mystery to see how this game will keep me hooked with GTA IV coming immediately after this. I'm hoping I can find the same joy online as I found with Mario Kart DS. After hearing about the single player in this version, I'm quite frankly turned off at playing it all together.

Mario Kart Wii
The online is legit and damn good.
If your not getting it then cool less whiners to deal with! this game is going to be very brutal just like brawl yet the online may work for more people over here in the states now that people know how to port forward and set up DMZ servers!
I'm not worried about them toning it down for the casuals because if they did I will just crush them! If a casual beats you at this game then you might just suck. I'm just ready to bring on the fury of leaving people in the dust once more! This game is about beating people in a race and from what I've seen it's exactly what I've wanted from mario with the retro tracks included! People though that smashes graphics where going to suck too.... I'll buy the game since the graphics look fine and my man hood has no problem crushing you while playful graphics fill the screen... a bloody node is still a bloody nose no matter where you receive it! BRING IT!
so you say "The graphics are gamecube standard at best".
what are u expecting? helllllllllllllllllo - this is the wii - not the ps3. lol
before i, myself, bought the wii, i debated to myself "wii unique gameplay or ps3 graphics" and i chose unique gameplay over graphics.
if the graphics is something that you whine about on the wii, then i suggest the ps3 or xbox360 will satisfy you better. mario kart will probably be rendering wii's graphic potential to the max ( i think )
as for gameplay, that's all subjective and opinion. however, let's play the game before we bash it....shall we?
hehehemy2cents

Have you read any coverage on the game?
You CAN'T leave someone on the dust, especially in 150cc on single player because of item balancing.
You can have an incredible lead, and then, boom: blue shell, lightning, and someone whacks you with a star power.
That's not fun, that's balancing the game for casuals.
This, sadly, isn't Mario Kart 64; you can't leave people in the dust.

I agree. The game is fun, but the balance is terrible. Sure, you need a bit of skill to win, but way too much of it is down to luck. There's nothing more grating than having the auto-targeting, unblockable blue shell of death take away the lead you worked hard to get. I have a feeling Nintendo did it to let casual gamers stand a chance against players who are basically better than them.

Hahaha, leaving people in the dust in Mario Kart 64. Catch up computer players, anyone?
Indeed, the races have been very close with a lot of people, but you still need some level of skill difficulty to maintain your position. There are still some people who are absolutely Goddawful at the steering. There's only a small chance you will get good racers in a race, in fact, it happens more than I expected, and it makes the game a lot more interesting.
Minus the snaking, you've got to make a way to make it seem more competitive. You will get mutillated in first place, but you only pay attention to that when it's at the end of the final lap, but you will be damn praising those items that catch you up when you die in the middle of the track.
hey there i brought mario kart couple of days ago and though i do find it fun to play it's not like the orginal not by any means the old kart game you use to be able to take corners sharply and it was fast .
with this new game i feel like a sunday driver.
