If there's going to be a problem with Mario Kart Wii, it's going to be with its wheel and its butchering of balloon battle.

I agree.
From what I have seen the online looks great and not laggy at all. The graphics look like a decent improvement from double dash, although they could have been better. A lot of the new courses look really good. The addition of motorcycles and new items seem like nice touches. The only things I think are going to be problems are the things you specified.

No and No.
The wheel is ok .. .. I'd give it 8/10 .. .. it's not perfect but it's very intuitive to use.
Balloon Battle? Online? 12 Players? Hugely Fun.. .. .. it's a really good system and works well .. .. it means that the tactics you adopt are different, but don't be so negative about it .. .. .. until you've played it for 3 hours .. ..

And so did Brawl's online when Nintendo released their Toyko vs. Kyoto video on the Dojo. Since the online was not filled with users yet, it was lag-free. Not to mention the two cities are [relatively] close to each other. Look how Brawl's online turned out.
I'm telling you all right now, do not expect much from Mario Kart Wii's Online play. Not trying to crash the party...just giving you all a reality check.

I wouldn't compare Mario Kart's online to Brawl's. Smash was a very watered down online experience where as Mario Kart contains a very good package. We're hearing good reports from the UK already.

People are doing better lap times without the wheel.
As for balloon battle...
the rules of Balloon Battle have now been changed, with it now being point based with a set time-limit instead of focusing on the removal of balloons.
What the hell?

Just because you get better times with a GC controller dosen't automatically make it more fun.

But the game is already released and I can assure you it is lag-free. Oh, and it's lots of fun too.
To those who have concerns:
- The graphics lack detail, but everything's in motion so you'll hardly notice
- The wheel works fine and it doesn't make the game any harder
- Balloon battle is not really balloon battle anymore because you spawn after you lost all balloons. It's still fun, but they should have sticked to the original concept
- Lag-free online, as mentioned above

You're an idiot. I bought this game today (deal- £30) and it's one of the best Mario Kart's yet. Online, fantastic. Graphics, top Wii.
SounD? The best Mario tunes to date. Shuttup, and next time play a game before you start to slag it off you tosspot.

I guess you can't judge the game until you've played it. I haven't yet, but frankly I won't be for a while (if ever).
No More Heroes is next on the wishlist, followed by SSBB. Mario Kart can wait.

Haha, look at you all judging online when it hasn't even been released in America yet. More and more people will play and it'll be laggy, but I haven't tried it out myself, I can't get my wifi to work.
Hell, the game's not even out of the box yet.

Of course online is going to be great and not lag when it's only in a few peoples' hands so far.
I bet online for Duke Nukem Forever is really fast right now too!
Get back to us when Mario Kart Wii has been released in the USA and Nintendo's servers are melting from the huge rush to play this highly-anticipated game by millions foaming at the bit.

well .. .. .. snaking might be possible but only for the truly gifted .. .. .. you need to powerslide for a long time to get the boost so it's almost impossible to snake.. .. IMO
