Caved in and got this game today. So far I have spent 3 hours burrowing my way in to the tower. Enjoyable game. I use the classic controller and the controls are great. The story and music so far is wonderful. Even the training dungeon is enjoyable goddamnit (only ones playing will get the joke).
I think I'm a new fan of roguelikes! Still plenty of adventuring to do. To many nay-sayers about this game. They just don't get it. Wonderful, goddamnit.

Cool. If you like this, then you will love "Shiren the Wanderer 3" which is coming out in Japan this summer and hopefully the US this fall for Wii.

Cool. I'm practicing Japanese so maybe if it's not region locked I can import a copy for more practice.
Just ran through and died some more. This game's addicting. Have you been playing it yet Frog?

I have not seen any copies yet. I'll get it, but I might end up picking up Okami first. No matter what the reviews say, the gamers impressions on that neogaf thread make me want to play it right now!!!

Yea it's pretty fun. I like the battling. Beating up flying sharks is entertaining, and finding items and figuring out what they do. I came across one shooting being so far which promptly mugged me with all his friends. Next time I will try to bust out my lightning before they kill me. Been mugged a couple times.
You can hold L on the CC to lock onto one creature that you're fighting, which really helps the camera angle. Start puts it automatically behind you, and the right analog stick lets you control it manually. Pretty good camera controls once you get used to it, I have no complaints.
Right now I'm using a sword that slighly freezes stuff I hit, which is a cool effect. I opened one box hoping for something cool. It must have been filled with dynamite tho. Back to level 1 on that one haha.

Anyone else play it yet?
I have a copy coming via Gamefly so I can see if I like it or not.

I still haven't beat it yet. I got distrated for a while when Kart came out, but back to playing it. I've completed the dungeon multiple times, and it has expanded to be longer and harder. It gets pretty hard later on some of the meta beings are down right difficult. Highly addicting. Some of the early beings are funny too, like the one you can step on. Squish. You don't earn experience stepping on them, but it's still fun.
Earning Baroques is interesting, and "collecting" all the sayings people say to you. It's definitely an interesting game. Probably one of my favorites so far. I still have some story to unlock, but what I have found out has been very enjoyable. The guy in my avatar is still my favorite. Good 'ol Coffin Man, goddammit.
Hope you enjoy it. I got a couple people to pick it up, and all of them are enjoying it too. It's not for everyone, but if what you have heard sounds fun I bet you would love it.

I'd probably rank it a 5 or 6/10. I guess I don't like how it is realtime so you just feel like you are clubbing creatures with your sword or throwing items. Most roguelikes are turn-based and feel more tactical. I like the storyline setup with the memory fragments, but Shiren the Wanderer is definitely better (DS) and most likely the Wii version will be one of my alltime fave games. Shiren 3 for Wii is looking amazing!!!
Baroque is definitely not a 3 though.
