Sonic Unleashed finally confirmed by Sega

Built on a new 'Hedgehog Engine', Sonic Unleashed apparently introduces seamless 3D to classic 2D camera transitions, with multiple paths through a familiar Sonic world. According to Sega, the title has been under development for three years.

"By combining rich and vibrant scenery with dynamic viewpoints Sonic Unleashed will provide an immersive 3D experience whilst keeping alive the 2D gameplay elements and fantastic worlds that Sonic fans know and love" beams Gary Knight from Sega.

"In addition to this classic Sonic gaming experience, when darkness sets in Sonic Unleashed players will be able to experience a completely new way to play as Sonic."

By this, Sega appears to be referencing the night and day mechanics that are completely new to the franchise. We have no idea what this means, but presume the powers granted by the Chaos Emeralds will change as the sun goes down.

It all sounds good, aside from the mention of combat fighting being possible alongside high speed classic Sonic. None of that please, Sega. Just jump and spin attack, cheers.

itd be cool to have a nice fast paced but easy to control and good 3-d sonic game with seamless 2-d transitions sort of in the vein of that 1 paper mario game i guess...i think it could be fun

looks pretty cool, but i'll wait for the reviews.

since i'm mainly interested on games with good multiplayer/online play, i'm only buying quality single player games (ie galaxy and twilight princess)

Right my first thoughts on this lol here goes lol
Sonic rush was said to be the best sonic game since the megadrive saga.
For those of you who dont know sonic rush its 2d-3d sonic on the DS and it is fast only downside blind jumping to only guess that you will land on safe ground.
Right back to unleashed it plays like sonic rush but in 3d as it goes pretty fast and uses cool tricks and obstacles to utilize the speed also it switches from a 2d side scroll look to a 3d behind camera look like most 3d sonic games to date, i can understand Sega tryin gto brng sonic back to its orignal roots but if from what i heard about sonic transforming into a wolf is true im thinking Sega are getting desperate with sonic.

I want it to play like the orignals but better and good story NUFF SAID.

No Sonic adventure was really good no doubt there but i will have to say the mega drive sonics were amazing espically sonic the hedgehog 2.

Having Sonic as a werewold well it should be werehog is abit stupid sounds like Sega is running out of ideas imagine if Mario in his next game turns into a bird or Samus turns into a spider hmmm seriously come on.

i agree that sonic seems like they a digging deep for ideas ,but at least they are trying to get the gameplay ,and camera work right. Especially getting the Rush team on the game. I have Secret Rings ,and although it was good the level progression design was freaking stupid. I havent even beat it yet just for that reason.

I think the Zelda/Wolf thing worked really well, and I think it will with Sonic too. Plus we are getting Okami!

sure, the whole link/wolf duo worked ok i guess, but it really did get aggravating after a while.

if you've played the game, i'm sure i don't have to tell you how glad i was to finally be able to change at will!
