"Come on Nintendo, we need a hard drive," says Rock Band dev
Quote:
Rob Kay, design director at Harmonix and on Rock Band, has blamed the lack of storage space as the primary reason why Wii Rock Band owners will not be able to download extra songs via DLC.
Advertisement:
"Come on Nintendo, we need a hard drive," Kay said when asked about the issue in a recent interview with CVG. "That's what we want. The whole problem is there's nowhere to store it."
"If the platform could do it, we'd jump on it", he continued. "It's something that we championed to Nintendo, that we'd like to do it. Who knows what will happen down the line, I don't know what's coming down the line, but that's the reason there's no DLC in Wii Rock Band"
Nintendo has repeatedly insisted there are no calls for an external hard drive, with the most recent defense being made back in November.

Nintendo for some reason still feels like the memory of the Wii is enough, but its not at all.
If they want me to continue downloading VC games and all their silly channels then they better release a hard drive.

How inefficient is game info for Rock Band that they can't encode a few songs and some timing notes in the 512MB provided? I'm not saying I don't want hard drive support but I do question Harmonix's reasoning.

^^Are you kidding me? There are so many songs you can download on Rock Band.....and theres hardly enough room for VC games as it is.
With stuff like this happening, WiiWare coming out soon....I just dont understand what they have against a harddrive.

How many people download everything? I get that the Wii is very limited on space but this isn't a problem without a solution. It's just a problem Harmonix doesn't want to put forth the effort to solve. I don't blame them for that. I'd punt on the problem, too. But I think it's a bit dishonest to say, "If the platform could do it, we'd jump on it." A far more honest statement would be, "If the platform could do it as easily as other platforms can, we'd jump on it."

Can't they just release a "External Hard-Drive Support" through a System update?
Because i think Official Nintendo Hard-Drives would be more expensive then normal ones.

The Wii's memory is fine for game-saves and that's about it. It's so easy to blow through that memory with VC games, Wii-Ware, and of course games with this much downloadable content.
Forget downloading map packs... *not SSBB, something like CoD5*
I like Nintendo's games and controllers, everything else about them is really dissapointing.

I agree. I used to download games that just looked fun, but since my memories and channels have filled I have slowed down purchasing so much. I buy the ones I know are good, or in certain cases imported games that I couldn't play on the original system. It's a pain to copy back/forth to the SD card. 64 games take like 10 minutes so we also need to be able to PLAY them off the hard drive. Otherwise it saves time and costs less to just buy an older system and hook it up. At that point there's really no benefit to VC games over originals, besides the save states.
I would also have two Wiis if I could use the VC games I have on both of them, but I'm willing to ignore that since piracy issues are understandable even though I think there could easily be a workaround to make it work.
I should thank them for helping me save money but I don't think that's what they intended.

They are only hurting themselves by not releasing one. Think of how much more we would download because there is enough space. Even if we do get a HD though, you can bet we'd have to delete space on the wii, transfer from HD to wii, then play a VC game. I think no matter what happens its gonna be lame.

You are forgetting: that measely 512 mb is supposed to hold the Wii's operating system, all the channels, pictures (if u upload them), VC games, and downloaded content.
It suddenly doesn't seem to big... does it...

Nintendo should just add external hard drive support, like someone previously stated. They aren't that expensive and you could just plug them into the USB port.
I'm not that bothered about it because I don't download a lot of VC games and I'm not really interested in Rock Band. But it is rather inconvenient.

Nintendo made the biggest mistake of their lives shutting out so many 3rd party developers from showcasing their games on the Wii, due to a simple lack of power. Disappointing.

Lack of power? that's not the issue here.

Hang on a minute, I think we can all agree that this is the real "biggest mistake of their lives."
