We've been gipped: The Force Unleashed falls short
I've been looking forward to this game since the first images I had seen of it, and I decided playing it on the Wii would be the most fun for its motion sensing capabilities. However, something key to its endless fun has been reported by IGN as missing.

It's worth noting though that the Wii version of Force Unleashed still had us raising a few questions. For starters, there's no IR at all in the game, so menus are all done with the d-pad or analog stick, and all in-game force powers are motion only. That means the team also didn't have the more accurate triangulation techniques that IR allows, so while games like Harry Potter Wii had players moving objects around the world with both hands, manipulating Z space with almost creepy precision, the role of object control is limited here to analog movement and a few force push techniques. LucasArts mentioned that since the game was so heavy on motion control the team didn't want players to constantly be searching for the IR in the middle of battle, and that's commendable. Still, there's no denying that you feel like a little something is missing when you grab an enemy with the force, and use analog rather than motion control to steer them around the world. In the end though, we'd rather have control that works than ambitious control that doesn't, so if it just wasn't possible in this situation, so be it.

Now, wtf? I want to flick my wrist when I toss people around the map, not move my thumb around the analog stick. What's the good of a Wii version if it's not going to fully take advantage of the Wii's capabilities? Oh, but right, this game's being ported to everything. The developers are obviously dedicated to selling as many copies as possible and not a quality Wii experience.
Aside from this tidbit of information, the IGN review is positive and hopeful of the game.

A lot of people probably will be. Especially all those "Wii60" owners out there. The version on the Wii is being developed by the same people who are making the PS2 version. That tells me they're going to have identical graphics. Who's going to get the weaker graphics version on the Wii when there's little to distinguish it from the gameplay of the superior looking version on the 360?

so if you played battlefront or any other starwars game you'll probably remember that you never use force powers anyway. It was a good review you just posted a part of it too make it look like crap.

What I commented on was its lack of taking advantage of the Wii's functions.

But the thing was that in the FULL review the author noted that it was the best way motion sensing, they have seen on any wii game yet. So you don't get motion sensing for one little thing? I mean we haven't even tested the game yet. It's too early to assume anything because clearly you are not basing the game off of the IGN review. Sorry if i sound critical btw.

I still want to play the game, and IGN are saying it's good, but it's very practical and an obvious choice for a developer to have Wii Remote function while you're using the force to move objects.
From the bit that I quoted, I think an implication being transmitted that the review is bad is more or less hit or miss. I'll edit it, though.

I wasn't that impressed with the game anyways, so no real disappoint to me. Kind of a bummer that they did that though for people wanting to play the game.

Or not at all. The game looks hardly groundbreaking or revolutionary. It'll be a niche title for geeky Star Wars fans. Given that there is still basically crap on the Wii with basically only crap on the horizon, this game may be a decent pick up for Wii only owners. But for 360 owners who have a wealth of awesome current and future games at their disposal, the game is utterly forgettable.
PS: The game hasn't been reviewed yet. That was just a hands-on play test. Doesn't the game come out this summer?

seems like it would be better than no more heroes IMO. I mean in that game using the actual saber didn't even include the wii motion sensing to swing it.

Agreed. Now that 'real' motion control is essentially out, there will be no reason whatsoever for me to even go near that game. Too bad, but whatever..

That will be your loss.
If you actually read the full preview then you would see that the controls were highly praised. You use the Wiimotes motions to control your lightsaber and the nunchuks motion to do a force push. Trying to use the nunchuks motions to accurately move objects would have been very inaccurate and if it used the Wiimote pointer then you couldn't use your lightsaber and the force at the same time. So the analogue stick makes sense for that part.
So far there has been nothing but praise for the Wii version with its smooth framerates, Wiimote lightsaber control, extra levels and 2 player duel mode. The main reports of the 360/PS3 versions have noted jerky framerates, no multiplayer, analogue sticks for everything but some fancy effects.
I know which version I'd rather buy and it's the Wii's, if I want to see some fancy effects i'll just put on a dvd.

You could you use your lightsaber and the force at the same time if the force were set to the Wiimote and the lightsaber function with swinging your nunchuk.
