Can the Quantum3 engine from High Voltage match 360, PS3 visuals?
Quote:
The announcement of The Conduit and its graphical capabilities made a splash around the Internet. The developers have been pushing their Quantum3 engine to the max in order to achieve visuals that could boast graphics similar to the Xbox360 and PS3. What exactly can the Quantum3 engine generate? Many known effects of the engine can be seen below:
Real-time effects
- Reflections
- Refractions
- Shadow casting
- Dynamic environment mapping
- Shadows
Bump-mapping
- 1-4 stage texture composition (for surface detail)
- RGB gloss maps
- Cyclic, linear translation/rotation (material effects)
- Standard tangent space normal maps with real-time adjustable bump intensity
- Bump lighting
Other graphical effects
Global illumination
Per-vertex lightmapping
Dynamic omni, directional, point, spot and projected texture lights
Skeletal, keyframe based animation
Morphing
Motion blur
Heat distortion
Bloom
Alpha masking
Specular and Fresnel effect
Interactive water
*More graphical effects can be produced through the Quantum3 engine, but the entire specifics of its capabilities have not been revealed.
So, can the Wii even partially mimic PS3 or Xbox360 visuals? That’s up for you to decide.

kinda close to my thread about the conduit, but whatever.
I do not think it can surpass let alone match the graphics of either console.

No, it won't. That tech demo was proof enough.

It will move them outta last gen technology "rating" , but it will still leave them in last place overall this gen. Still would be a nice thing to see hit Wii like wildfire, if it's possibal to pull it off well then do it.

No, it could be similar but it won't be the same..ever. The hardware is just not there.

I personally don't think that it has to beat the PS3 or the 360 in graphics. With the graphics sooo much better than any other game on the wii system and being a game that alot of wii owners want. All they have to do is keep there word on making it a high graphic fps and wii owners will buy and play the hell out of it.

Yeah thats like saying the HD systems can do this.

Yep thats a port to of every ones favorite game devil may cry with a real GPU!
So the fact that the Wii can do a normal map great now is really big now we will see what some great artists can do now. Give this to the retro team and they would have no problem proving that point. The reason why I posted the PC version of DMC is to show you guys GPUs are about feature sets. At a certain resolution the GPUs in the xbox and PS3 will just be spinning their wheels. they are actually part of the same gen as the Wii's GPU. It's like buget cards vs high end they can bought do the same things yet frame rate and other thing are effected. Look at any bench mark for the last gen 3d cards and you'll see that those cards struggled to do those effects. Even DMC ran at 30 frames a second on both HD system. It will run at a crazy 120fps on the real GPUs out right now.
Every one talks about the Wii being gimped but playing games at 30fps is some thing I did back in college. That not except able for some thing I paid $400+ for. If it is for you then maybe thats why your PC can't play this game?
You have to research high end tech then invest in it. With the Wii I knew it could do more because I owned cards based on similar tech before and the only reason normal mapping was not pursed then was because no one really tried pushing this tech. Fixed function GPU and unified shaders both have their pros and cons yet nvidia killed the former with ease of use. It's really in way way what the cell was trying to do but even that could not win in the face of unified shader pipeline. Every one once an easy button believe me.
Yet this is great news and normal mapping and most of the effects in that tech dome are not suppose to be capable on the Wii by developers standards currently. Unless you can make your own engine. How many engine have ubisoft actually made? What about EA? Even capcom struggled with PS3 development and lost planet looks like a Wii gaming using this very engine because of it...LOL
For what ever reason you hate the Wii for this is very big and the reason why it's getting so much doubt. Also too Id tech could actualy run off of this if only a Harddrive or some storage option was present. I mean I still have one USB waiting back there and I have 2g SD cards? I wonder if it's the driver thats slowing the Wii' SD reads way down because it's almost instant on my PC?

Whoa, I didn't know the Quantum3 engine could do Bloom, too. I didn't think we'd see that on the Wii.
And for the 300th time, no, no Wii game will ever compare with PS3 or 360 graphics. It's not rocket science, people.
Even if the games had the exact same engines, with the exact same textures, animations, lighting, and so on... The Wii is only 480p, and the 360 and PS3 are 720p, if not as high as 1080.
The Wii CANNOT OUTPUT AS HIGH A RESOLUTION, PERIOD. EVER.

The effects the engine can do is one thing but resolution tells another story. Well anyway, I don't see why this is even an issue at this point.
