Its says to shake the steering wheel up, down, left, or right. I shake the hell out of it and nothing happens.

I'm confused - I thought Mario Kart was supposed to create a channel in the main menu? I only see it in-game.

^ You have to install the channel through the game.

I looked through the manual really quick and couldn't find the trick stuff. I figured it out for myself though. I usually just flick the top of the wheel toward me right when I go off a jump to do a trick. Same thing for wheelies on bikes. Just learning still too though.

A good place to do tricks is wario stadium. You need a certain amount of height off the jump obviously also to pull off the trick.

Haven't played the game, and I know it's not near the best ever. And average of an 8.5 in reviews is not the best ever.

The game is great, but hardly the best game ever. Not by a longshot.

If anything, it's a bit over-rated. It's got some great new features (e.g., online) and some neat bells and whistles, but in the end, it's still the same thing all over again. At this time, I've give the game a solid 8.0.

Plus, does anyone find the sense of speed underwhelming? I haven't played the GC version in a while, but the carts seem slower. Is that, as well as the really wide tracks, due to the wheel, which doesn't seem to allow as sharp/tight turning?

I had that problem too. However, you need to shake it RIGHT as you take the jump--as in, right at the tip of the ramp, for example.

Also, you don't need to shake the wheel violently or anything. I just flick it up a bit.

I figured out the tricks cause you have to shake it right at the top of the ramp. I haven't done anything with the channel yet, I downloaded it though. What is the channel for really?

This game is pretty amazing, but my one concern is that it's kind of too easy.... maybe because i've been playing mario kart since MK 64, and this is basically the same game, so on the first day I have it I'm already good at it. I must say guys, I could kick ANY of your butts online!

Definitely a great game, but not the best. Brings back memories of when Nintendo made simple concepts so creative and complex, which they haven't been accomplishing lately. Definitely Game of the Year for me (from Nintendo).

Atomheart: Out of curiosity, what makes someone using a GC/Classic controller a noob? Just because Nintendo packaged the wheel with the game doesn't mean it's supposed to be played that way.
